Share your tuk tuk and motodup stories
Re: Share your tuk tuk and motodup stories
One time I took a motodop home late on a Friday night / early Saturday morning, and for once, I was drunker than he was.Jamie_Lambo wrote: ↑Thu May 31, 2018 2:05 am i once took a motodop that actually knew where i wanted to go, i think... i maybe did have to direct him though

The motodop who I used to hire for my daily commute to work was a dead ringer for Pol Pot. He looked exactly like him.

Ha! I'm yet to sleep in the tuktuk, but we often have to shoo nationals out of it if we leave it parked up anywhere. The seats are custom, and very comfortable (apparently). Apparently tuktuks are considered communal space, especially when it's raining, unless you actually need to drive it at which point all the extras climb out. We find it cute that complete strangers are quite at home playing treehouse in the tuktuk, but I'm less enthusiastic about having to go looking for the tuktuk when others have moved it around the corner.Username Taken wrote: ↑Wed May 30, 2018 10:04 pmStroppy was probably inside his house when you went by.that genius wrote: ↑Wed May 30, 2018 10:02 pm I passed a parked tuk-tuk today and there was nobody sleeping in it.

Oh, for those who know our smaller three-wheeled Chinese tuktuk we sold it some time ago to another foreigner, so if you see it buzzing around TTP area, that's not me driving it.

Thai tuk tuk story?
4am after one or two many Sang Soms in Banglamphu years ago I befriended a tuk tuk driver (or he befriended me more likely,I don't recall) which found me on my way to a small alley a few kilometres away that housed his favorite late night eatery. On the way we pulled up to a set of traffic lights on red when a friend of his pulled alongside us. They started chatting and laughing, probably at the legless farang in the back, then each started revving their engines. At green the two of them started attempting wheel stands without telling me in the back. I've gone from pleasantly pissed to fucking terrified as I'm looking at the road running closer to my left ear than was acceptable and the nose of the tuk tuk rearing up like Bangkok hooker getting her first back door surprise. Scared the fuck out of me. My "what the fucks" didn't stop them and we wheelied between traffic lights for a kilometer or so.
