AKP Phnom Penh, January 16, 2021 --

The inter-ministerial commission has identified four prime tourism poles and over 250 projects to include in the draft of the Kep provincial tourism development master plan.

H.E. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism on Jan. 14 chaired the inter-ministerial commission meeting to review and discuss additional inputs for the drafted master plan at the ministry office here in Phnom Penh.

The drafting of the Kep provincial tourism development master plan was informed by a comprehensive study by the inter-ministerial commission.

According to H.E. Thong Khon, the master plan aims to transform Kep into a high-end luxury tourism destination, not only for Cambodia but the region and the world.

The effort, he continued, will need to look into aspects such as equality, equity, transparency, sustainability and innovation of the tourism service in the coastal province.

Once in place, the provincial tourism development master plan will serve as an important strategic document to restore and further promote tourism in Kep during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.

As specified by H.E. Ny Phally, Undersecretary of State for the Ministry of Tourism, the four prime tourism poles identified include the current Kep city, Angkaol region, Phnom Vor area, and the province’s archipelago.

Cambodia seeks to turn Kep province into tourist magnet

A master plan to develop the Kep province in Cambodia into a high-end, eco-tourism destination, covering four prime sites and 251 projects, is being drafted by the country’s tourism ministry.

Tourism minister Thong Khon was quoted by the Phnom Penh Post as saying that the facelift is to strengthen Kep’s attractiveness and competitiveness as a luxury destination for foreign travellers, in order to help restore the industry to pre-pandemic health.

During a recent meeting presided by Thong Khon to discuss the plan, Ny Phally – ministry undersecretary of state and director of the secretariat of the inter-ministerial commission – said the four primary development areas are Kep town, Ankol beach, the Phnom Vore region, and the province’s archipelago.

Phally said under the master plan, the Kep beach will be improved upon, and the Angkol beach will be developed as a new tourist site, while the Sre Ambel salt fields will be turned into an agro-tourism destination.

“Apart from improving these coastal areas, there are many other development projects, including expansion of international sports facilities, construction of a tourist-oriented war museum and organisation of visits to the 13 islands which are rich in biodiversity like corals, sea dolphins, dugong, fish and many other rare species,” he was quoted by the report as saying.

AKP Phnom Penh, July 05, 2021 --

The construction project of a tourism seaport at Koh Tonsay in Kep province is now 75 percent complete, said an official of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT).

It took already over a year since the groundbreaking ceremony and the construction continues despite the COVID-19 pandemic, underlined Mr. Ros Sophorn, Director of MPWT’s Waterway Infrastructure and Port Construction Department.

The seaport project is part of Kep Tourism Master Plan and the maritime transportation connectivity project between seaport in Koh Tonsay and a tourism seaport in Kampot province which is under construction.

Once built, the port will not only serve tourists, but also become a pier for light cargo ships.

Cambodia News (Kep Province): Trucks of sand that were seen dumped into the Kep seashore line in front of the Kep Provincial Hall have caused a lot of controversy amongst the public on social media.
According to Som Piseth, the officer of Kep, the reasons behind the landfills was part of the 5 years project of Kep development to improve the economy in the province. This project is to strengthen the shoreline and avoid erosion and would be finished by 2030 and this area would not be opened for the public to dump waste. This construction will not affect the daily businesses of the locals.

Kep Provincial Administration announced Friday that the Koh Tonsay Tourist Port, which costs around $1.2 million, is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.

If ur one of those that travelled to kep and thought , "why are they allowed to hassle people when parking on the street opposite the beach an why are people picnicking on the sidewalk"

Well no more, they have stopped them doing it and only the places on the other side of the road are currently allowed.

Also lots of testing going on near the beach and at the market

New port in Kep set for completion this year

Kep Provincial Administration announced Friday that the Koh Tonsay Tourist Port, which costs around $1.2 million, is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.

The port, which is shaped like a crab and services Rabbit Island, extends about 306 metres from the mainland into the sea and is 68 metres wide, with a total area of more than 4,000 square metres.

Kep provincial governor Som Piseth said that the port will serve the tourism sector.

He said that the port is to expand the tourism and economic potential of Kep province through bilateral waterways with countries in the region and the port may service international traffic in the future.

He went on to say that Koh Tonsay Tourist Port is capable of accommodating ships with a capacity of less than 300 passengers and other cargoes of about 15 tonnes.

He said that besides constructing Koh Tonsay Tourist Port, Kep Provincial Administration is implementing a project to build a new transport port at Ses Sar (White Horse) Island, which is planned to cost nearly $2 million and can accommodate cargo ships carrying around 1,000 tonnes.

Piseth added that in addition to these two ports, the administration also plans to build another new port on Koh Tonsay (Rabbit Island) through funding from the Asian Development Bank to expand tourism to the 12 islands of Kep.

I like kep the way it is, so i look at this news and say
oh shit;;;
Kep province has only beach, with a length of 350m, 12 islands and one reef.
The Royal Government recently greenlit plans to develop a stretch of mudflats on the Chhak Kep cove into a 2,700m-long high-end public beach to attract more holidaymakers to the province.

Expected to be implemented soon, the project is planned to extend from the vibrant Kep Crab Market to a mangrove forest located in Prey Thom commune’s Thmey village in western Kep.

Provincial Department of Tourism director Som Chenda welcomed the government’s decision to develop and spruce up the coastal area and improve the tourism potential of the southwestern province.

He said he was unaware of a timeline for the project, noting that all decisions would be made at the national level.
