It's surprising how many businesses have signs up for many weeks, advertising for staff . I think the problem is not just getting qualified workers but also the monthly salaries advertised seem very low as compared to a clothing factory workers salary plus extras .
This country really desperately needs some more training centers for semi skilled workers.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

actually it is not very low, the garment factory advertised salary on the billboards is actually include overtime (sometimes), bonuses when the worker hit daily target etc, it is much more easier to deduct their salary in those factories (i.e taking 1min more than their allocated breaks , later for work etc) compared to casinos workers, casino worker have longer working hours hours too, 12hrs for most shifts, so if u divide the salary by the hours they work, it is not as good or comfortable as working in the office, also status wise (everyone wants to work in an office)
yes and KoW needs lots of semi skilled workers, if i hv the capacity n time i wld start a industrial technical & F&B school and tie up with the factories and hotels, its a win win win situation,
but hey, what do i know? [Admin edit: personal attacks not necessary]
Money is not the problem, the problem is no money

Back in the roaring 90's we knew how to fix these problems very quickly. Funny how things seem worse now that Cambodia is...um..."civilized".

so does don bosco, which is suppose to be a NGO missionary helping poor locals kinda school, saw that in order to enroll, students had to pay the school dean (which is my friend BTW) tea money, kinda pissed at him for doing that, but kept my mouth shut.that genius wrote: ↑Tue May 29, 2018 12:08 pmPSE, Hagar and a few others have been doing this for a long time.(F&B)
PSE also trains mechanics and business staff (accounting etc.)
my point being, not enough of these schools, and curriculum plus training is not robust enough, if there is a tie up between the school and the industry, student could be place with a job soon after training and also internship and OJT, defrayed some of the cost for the schools which in turn lowered the course fees, win win win

Yeah, both PSE and Hagar have heir own restaurants, not sure about Don Bosco
PSE/Hagar have established ties to the industry, but you really wouldn't believe the levels of frustration trainers face in getting even simple things like remembering orders (yes, even when they are written down) and not ignoring people at tables.
Most of this is due to confidence issues, not linguistic or skills levels. This problem is going to take years to fix

yes precisely, 99% of the time i had to force my staffs to go and try new things and complete new tasks, coz most of the time they favourite response is " i think i cannot do it, its not in my ability" it is more than frustrating, it has become decapitating to business growththat genius wrote: ↑Tue May 29, 2018 12:56 pm Most of this is due to confidence issues, not linguistic or skills levels. Woman accused of maid torture
A 33-year-old clothes vendor was arrested on Sunday for allegedly beating and torturing her under-age domestic maid.
Major Chey Sovann, deputy chief of Por Senchey district police, said the victim, 16, was from a poor family in Oddar Meanchey province’s Anlong Veng district.
Meng Rath Pisey of Chom Chao 2 commune hired the girl to live with her as a maid.
“She beat and tortured her for about four years,” he said. “She forced her to work hard from the earlier morning until late at night.”
“The hard evidence was the scars from wounds on the victim’s body, legs, hands and face,” he added. He said the suspect was arrested on Sunday evening after police raided Ms Rath Pisey’s house.
“She was preliminarily accused by police with acts of intentional violence with aggravating circumstances and torture. She faces up to five years in prison if convicted.” Ms Rath Pisey was detained for questioning and further investigation at the police station and will be sent to Phnom Penh Municipal Court for questioning today.
The victim has been sent to stay temporarily at a rehabilitation centre in Phnom Penh.
Last week, Prime Minister HE called on all homeowners to treat their maids better and bring their working conditions in line with those enjoyed by garment workers.
