Do khmers use contraceptives and condoms?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

That is absolute nonsense. There's a good reason why HIV rates have declined sharply here over the past couple of decades, and that is the widespread education about and use of condoms. This would not work if it was only used by married couples, it's casual sex which is the focus. For most sex-workers and just those sexually active, they are viewed as essential. This is nothing new or regional either.
Condoms are acceptable for all. Contraceptive pills, patch, etc., for married. Hope that clarifies the confusion.

Thanks for the outright reaming reply. Shows that this forum is still as welcoming as ever.

Fair enough, but I'm not sure why you are making that distinction because all are considered contraceptives whether barrier or hormonal method. Many sex workers get hormonal injections just to avoid mistakes though, as they are often coerced into unsafe practices by "sweethearts".

One's got to be stupid as shit not to use a condom with a khmer hooker, but if one is there's something for one,
it's called natural selection.

Not all Khmer women are ‘hookers’. They have a different view about age group appropriate different methods of contraception. Sorry for not clarifying my previous reply.

All the following is from the Cambodia Demographic Health Survey 2014

Cambodia has increased its contraceptive prevalence rate and utilization modern methods from 34.9% in 2010 to 38.8% in 2014 . There is also an ever growing demand by women in Cambodia to access long acting and reversible contraceptive methods (IUD and Implant) with 6.6% of women aged 15-49 years choosing IUD or Implant up from 3.5% in 2010 .

Actually, many NGOs give free condoms to working girls.

Plus, the fact that there are 'used condom police' shows that condom use is widespread by Khmers.

Before this thread started. I had a lady come talking to me, she has run the ladies institute for the last ten years in the building over the road from me, she works advising working ladies in the area of safe sex, also HIV testing.

Yeah, if you want authoritative answers, contact the NGO, RACHA or professionals actually involved, a male-dominated expat forum probably won't give you totally accurate info.

True, but wasn't the original question "how much extra for bareback"? Isn't this one of the two suitable forums to find an answer? Surely there's a few here that could give a ballpark on the premium for the troll/OP.

Indeed.
Re the condom police: Women have been arrested as prostitutes because they were carrying condoms. Massage parlors are closed because of condoms found on the premises.
