Commandos raid home of French hacker and extortionist on Koh Samui
19 May2018
Heavily armed Thai commandos aided by French police raided the home of a French national in Mae Nam, Koh Samui earlier today.

A video showed a stunned and bespectacled Jonathan Verron being led for questioning by officers of the Crime Suppression Division.

He has been described as a dangerous foreign criminal who was a ringleader of a three person gang involved in hacking and extortion.

He had been hiding out in Thailand when the officers arrived with a search warrant from the Surat Thani court following representations made by the French police.

Two other suspects were previously arrested by the French authorities.

Seized along with the suspect were twenty items of electronic equipment believed to have been used in the commission of cyber crime and bank books.

There was also a quantity of compressed ganja found on the premises.

It is claimed that Mr Verron is the ringleader of a gang that hacked into a British financial institution then attempted to extort money by threatening to reveal the details of customers of that institution.

TNA said that Verron has connections with the “Dark Web” in matters such as drugs and war weapons.

Avec le code de Jonathan Verron, ils voulaient braquer la « Prepaid Financial Service » de Londres
[ They hacked into the London-based "Prepaid Financial Service" with the code provided by Jonathon Verron]
20 mai 2018
Jonathan Verron's victim was a London-based company that prepares pre-paid payment cards, "Prepaid Financial Service" (PFS), according to the French newspaper Le Journal de Dimanche (JDD).

As we reported on Friday, the malware identified on behalf of Jonathan Verron is the cause of his arrest, even if he is not the direct attacker, he is well linked to the design of the program.

The case goes back to last year, says JDD, when computer hackers took over the personal data of several hundred PFS clients (1400 according to a media in Thailand). A certain "Rexmondy" would have been maneuvering and would have demanded £ 500 (over 400 euros) for individuals and the equivalent of 500,000 euros in bitcoin to PFS. London's "Metropolitan Police" was quick to locate the hackers in the Parisian region and sought help from its French colleagues.

In this case, the cyber police of OCLTIC (the Central Office for the Fight Against Information and Communication Technologies) managed to track the hacking to a 21-year-old boy residing in Montreuil (Seine-Saint-Denis), going by the name of "Rexmondy" .

The latter at the time said that he had purchased the malicious program on the Darknet from a French-based company, which he only knew by a pseudonym.

A year later, thanks to the cooperation of Europol, French police managed to put a name on the "encoder" of the software that was used for intruding into the "Prepaid Financial Service" system. They then asked for the assistance of the Thai police who placed three of its known drop points under surveillance until its spectacular arrest on Koh Samui on Friday.

The horror! The whores who fund Yemen having the account-holders revealed!

Notice how the 'British Financial Institution' was not named.

I wonder how much Rothschild paid the respective governments?

Uh-oh, it's that "Dark Web" thing again. Sounds so sinister.

So in fact Verron is not a dangerous crime gang-leader at all, he merely wrote an exploit of some kind (and most likely offered it for sale on the "dark web"), which was then used to extort a debit card company.

It's a little like being charged as a dangerous murderer for making illegally long knives, one of which is then bought by a crim who uses it to butcher someone.

It does shine a light on the corrupt power of finance though, and on just how vulnerable they feel the system is.
The "crime" of writing a computer hack, or even the actual crime of selling it, doesn't seem to warrant an international commando operation if you ask me.
