10 dead in Texas school shooting
Re: 10 dead in Texas school shooting
"The revolution did more than legally create the United States; it transformed American society... Far from remaining monarchical, hierarchy-ridden subjects on the margin of civilization, Americans had become, almost overnight, the most liberal, the most democratic, the most commercial minded, and the most modern people in the world." - Gordon S. Wood

From http://www.nationmaster.com/country-inf ... ion-peoplefrank lee bent wrote: ↑Sun May 20, 2018 10:13 pm i find it odd that those who habitually criticize USA nearly always give the other major powers a free pass, and their own countries as well.
while these school shootings are highly visible, it is a fact that USA is 99th in murder rates per capita shown here by UN citation
http://www.nationmaster.com/country-inf ... ion-people
and 92nd as shown here
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_c ... icide_rate
and 83rd here
https://www.indexmundi.com/facts/indica ... 5/rankings
given that nearly all the countries with much higher murder rates have very strict gun controls, it would appear this argument is fallacious.
what is clear however, is that many of these mass shooters have been using psychoactive pharmaceuticals, usually by prescription.
Your link puts the US in the Top 10. The stats are old, but I'm using your source.

Yeah, just keep murdering your school kids, who cares whether foreigners approve of it or not. Keep digging that hole, and be proud about it. Murica.

Re: 10 dead in Texas school shooting
Also somewhat older data (2013-ish) and it's wikipedia, so take that into consideration, but this links shows about 60% of all US gun deaths are suicides, and there is plenty of other online info that shows that of the remaining 40% of intentional gun deaths (or homicides/murders) in the US, over half are considered legally justified, as in police killings and self-defense killings.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_c ... death_rate
My point being, just don't look at "gun-related deaths" or "homicides" when comparing numerical data. The gun death figures for the US are still insanely high and indefensible, but there is more to the story than just numbers.
The mass shootings and school shootings like this one are disgusting and wholly indefensible and no sane person could possibly argue otherwise.

It seems a whole lot of Americans care more about their 18th century law amendments than their schoolkids getting murdered. You will be called insane for disagreeing with their God-given rights.

Re: 10 dead in Texas school shooting
is it significant if a gun, knife, or stick is used, when the total murder rate has such a high disparity?Your link puts the US in the Top 10. The stats are old, but I'm using your source.
btw, i own no firearms, and do not aspire to do so, as i have no need.
Re: 10 dead in Texas school shooting
There is a world of difference between allegedly supporting such mass shootings (which nobody is doing) and arguing the very valid point that just because some people can't control themselves and will do harm to others at the drop of a hat that all other people must not be allowed do this or that or own this or that. How many people have been killed by drunk (or high) drivers? How many drunken Khmer men have macheted the fuck out of their entire family? Nobody here calls for prohibiting alcohol or machetes as a result. Don't use the abhorrent behavior of some fuckwits as an excuse to impose your personal bugaboos on everyone, even if many others may agree with you. No one calls you insane for your beliefs. You may get called insane for insulting others who refuse to comply with your personal views and refuse to bend to your will.John Bingham wrote: ↑Mon May 21, 2018 2:18 amIt seems a whole lot of Americans care more about their 18th century law amendments than their schoolkids getting murdered. Re: 10 dead in Texas school shooting
So you contend that there is no causal link between the easy availability of firearms in the US and mass shootings? Good luck to all your murdered children, your hope and prayers are all they need.

i did not say that, kindly do not put words in my mouth. i am certainly not enough of a statistician to be able to make such a definitive statement like that. however, increasing mass killings in Canada, UK, and Europe using vehicles and knives would suggest mental illness would be the proximate cause rather than the availability of any particular weapon.
as to prayers, this may also fit into the definition of mental illness.

Re: 10 dead in Texas school shooting
I wasn't responding to your post. Anyway, there haven't been any mass-killings in schools outside of the US, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nigeria recently. These red-herrings about mass-killings in Europe are nothing but an attempt to deflect blame from your own failing state. Keep shooting your kids, blame it on cars and machetes.frank lee bent wrote: ↑Mon May 21, 2018 3:11 am i did not say that, kindly do not put words in my mouth.
