REAL credit card, not debit card

Post by that genius »

Most Cambodian banks market 'credit cards' but in fact, they are the equivalent of western 'debit cards.'

They offer 90% of your balance, which means that you should just keep your money in your pocket because debit cards only allow a 90% limit on your balance. Great deal, right? Doh.

How do I get the equivalent of a western credit card here?

And which banks offer them?

Thanks in advance.

I was interested in getting a card with Canadia a few years back, but they wanted to hold a greater amount than the card's limit in an account that I couldn't touch, so I didn't go ahead. Maybe things have changed. Many things have.

I think the ANZ Royal platinum credit card is more like a western one, I was offered one recently but didn't fancy the $100 a year fee. Also need an account with them.

Free access to the airport lounge so maybe worthwhile for a frequent flyer & up to 50% off green fees, both not relevant to me

Thank you, colin.

Yeah, not crazy about ANZ's business ethics in the past.

AEON's credit cards are proper credit cards. Not 100% if they give them to foreigners though. Basic card should be free, gold card has $25 or so annual fee.

Ah, thank you, interesting.

Do you have one? (I'm assuming you're an expat) Most of the references are to Cambodian citizens in the requirements info.

Yes i have. At least 2017 they gave for foreigners too. I noticed also that website only have requirements for Cambodians and that why wasn't sure if they still give it to foreigners. If you live in PP, then just go AEON mall and ask. They have booth on all floors.

I think I remember something about foreigners having to earn an income of over $3000 per month.
