Yes, also grown sick of these fees - I am going to get a Cambodian bank account and have my money paid straight into there. Any advice on what banks will give me an account? ABA has been advised by a couple of friends.

Anyone got any more info on this?

https://www.ababank.com/

I opened an account some years back, mainly for the purpose of transferring monies from the UK.
Never had any problems. I found the bank staff very helpful.
Now I hear it is possible to send sterling direct and get the dollar rate at the time you make withdrawals in Cambodia.
Apparently, this cuts out the higher currency exchange rate charge, in the UK
Anyone with any info on this?

ABA is OK, Cambodia Public Bank is good, but ABA has the most branches/ATMs of any bank in the country, I think.

Charges/minimum balance requiremnets are reasonable

CPB is way ahead of ABA in service

That would be an idea but transferring money from Uk bank to foreign bank usually incurs a transfer fee. Plus you may then be charged exchange fees?

Did you actually go in the bank to the clerk rather than use the ATM? I've always wondered if this could work. It didn't in a couple of banks that i tried, they just told me I have to go use the ATM outside.
ABA is a good bank. Online they notify you of any transactions, send straight to your mobile phone.
But the overseas ATM withdrawal charges are quite high and the que in the SHV, can often take 45mins just to get to the counter.

Won't help you at the moment but for Americans Charles Schwab offers refundable ATM fees worldwide.

I like this feature. If your card were to get skimmed, you would get a notification the moment they used it to make a transaction, so you could cancel it straight away. Hopefully they won't have cleaned you out in that one withdrawal tho...

You can block your card and/or change the withdrawal limit using their app too.
