Plastic in Cambodia's sea - The Guardian

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Both Lucky on Sihanouk and Super Duper on Sotheros are charging for bags now. It’s 400 Riel per bag at Lucky and I think the same at super duper but can’t remember exactly.

Instead, there is dense layer upon layer of plastic waste clogging the water, piling up around poles that support the wooden homes, carpeting the beach....

It's a totally bullshit article. For a start where is "Sihanouk, Cambodia"? As far as I know part of him is in an urn in a stupa at the Royal Palace and some of his ashes were dispersed on the rivers? Maybe they mean "Sihanoukville"? Well if they do the description is way off, because that particular spot isn't representative of the whole city or province. Sure it's a nasty looking village, but you can find shitty looking places anywhere. Next week there will probably be an article from Hannah Ellis-Petersen about the city of "Phnom" which will be illustrated with pictures of some garbage pickers who live along the canals.
