We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Phnom Penh: On April 22, 119 Chinese were arrested for online scamming through VOIP internet system at house no. 38, Street no. 606, Sangkat Beungkok 2, Khan Toul Kok, Phnom Penh.

The immigration department cooperated with Khan Toul kok Police and Khan Sen Kok Police, coordinated by Mr. Seang Sok, deputy prosecutor of Phnom Penh court, in a two-pronged crackdown on Chinese online scammers working in Phnom Penh. The police arrested 74 Chinese in Khan Toul Kok and 64 Chinese in Khan Sen Sok, making a total of 119 Chinese arrested, including 19 women.

Following their arrests, all suspects were taken to the immigration department to be legally charged with criminal activity and given deportation orders.

Wonder what the visa of choice is for these fine contributors to the Cambodian foreign community ?

They cannot easily get a 12 month business EOS anymore. Are they going for short term EOS, border runs, or have bogus business's been setup to qualify them for work permits/1 year visas ?

Quite an industry anyway, and probably just the tip of the iceberg being caught ?

Somebody will be redistributing a lot of decent computer hardware soon

Question: are they scamming Chinese in China, Chinese here or Khmers here?

I would guess Chinese here and in China

Also, there is no way the landlord had no idea that all these wonderful people were sleeping in his house...surely he should also be held accountable?

Yep, those who are unaccountable should be held accountable.
