Standing your ground in the face of a threat.

Have questions or resources regarding Khmer Culture? This forum is all about the Kingdom of Cambodia's culture. Khmer language, Cambodian weddings, French influence, Cambodian architecture, Cambodian politics, Khmer customs, etc? This is the place. Living in Cambodia can cause you to experience a whole new level of culture shock, so feel free to talk about all things related to the Khmer people, and their traditions. And if you want something in Khmer script translated into English, you will probably find what you need.

Standing your ground in the face of a threat.

Post by taabarang »

Hopefully you will never need to use it, but just in case here you go.

"Meul muk khnyom aoii chom(jom). Please note that the "o" in chom isn't
the full o sound but similar to the o sound in the French word "école".
The meaning of the idiom is I'm not afraid of you, but a more literal translation is look at me straight in the face(when you say that). Another meaning of "chom" comes from the game of darts where it means "bullseye". Strongly suggested that you use it only when prepared to back it up.
As my old Cajun bait seller used to say, "I opes you luck.

you shouldn't need any words to get that point across if you do maybe you should rethink your options

I do not make language posts to teach people how to live, but familiarize them with the living spoken Khmer. Anyway, use it in your next dart game..

A shouting at the local market, the source of most of my stolen idioms and no I was not involved.

Strangely enough at my age,74, I kinda miss it, but also at my age I'm wise enough to not confuse nostalgia with reality.
