Re: Man-hunting tiger is reported to be chasing villagers in Pursat
But the villagers are convinced there is a tiger. Even if they haven't all seen it, they know someone who has, or they heard it roar.
“Two of them saw the tiger. One was a grandma and her grandson. People saw the tiger before in this forest as they came from Phnom Troap Mountain. The grandma said it was a tiger, but the grandson did not believe, so he walked closer, and then the tiger roared and chased him before almost biting him,” he added. “The villagers were all shocked about the tiger.”
Deputy village chief Sen Sa E said the villagers heard the roar of the tiger often.
“The villagers who picked cashew nuts saw the tiger. They saw it two or three times before, but did not say anything about it because they do not want children looking for it,” he said.
Ibra Him said the tiger almost attacked his nephew, El Khorey, 16. “Four or five of us were picking cashew nuts and my mother and my nephew saw the tiger and it almost bit my nephew. Though I did not see it attack my nephew, we all heard the tiger roar,” he said.

Another Alleged Tiger Attack
Battambang, Cambodia News: On 18 December 2018, there has been another report of a suspected tiger attack in the west of Cambodia near a village in Samlaut district, Battambang.
Local people believe that a cow that was killed overnight was attacked by a tiger. They say that they are afraid to go out at night, because they believe there is a tiger living in the forest close to the village.
Unfortunately, Kohsantepheap news has blurred most of the attack marks left on the cow, so it is difficult to judge from the photos.

Re: Man-hunting tiger is reported to be chasing villagers in Pursat
Battambang: Residents in the remote mountainous region of Phnom Srok district have expressed their fears of wild tigers coming into their village after a surprise incident. People have seen bite marks on the cow, and have also seen tiger footprints on the scene. Local authorities have suggested that a leopard may be responsible for this latest livestock death, because tigers are "extremely rare". (Wild tigers in Cambodia are so rare that they have been declared extinct.) It was also suggested that a tiger might have crossed the border from Thailand.
Villagers in the area have been told to remain vigilant, particularly after dark.

It looks as if the tiger is humping the cow, not trying to kill it.

Cue hundreds of sketchy dudes camping in the local forest hanging snares and traps all over place. It could be a Leopard but they are facing extinction here too.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

Are you saying those tracker dogs are lazy or not trained properly?
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

It Could Be a Wild Bear, Says Environment Official
Battambang, Cambodia News: Mr. Kant Borann, Director of Environment Department of Battambang Province, has said that the killing of a cow by a wild animal may be the work of an Asian Black Bear. He said there are many bears present in the protected area in Battambang province, and it is reported that police saw footprints on the ground that may belong to a bear, and possible traces of bear fur were found in the area.
According to Mr. Borann the wetland area located in Samlot District, Battambang Province is a habitat of wild bears, some of which weigh up to 140 kilograms.

Here's a different take on the "tiger attack" from conservationist Gregory McCann.

Asia’s Environmental Apocalypse 2019?
February 6, 2019
By: Gregory McCann
This year’s environmental news kicked off in grisly fashion: a Vietnamese poaching gang recording one of its members straddling and punching a snared and presumably dead tiger (the Thai authorities say they have caught the perpetrators) in one of Thailand’s protected areas.
Thailand has always seemed, to those in the conservation world, Southeast Asia’s last great hope for wild tigers and wildlife in general, which makes the news of a Vietnamese poaching gang active and beating on a dead tiger all the more distressing. But things can change fast. Nothing is really protected, nothing actually sacrosanct in the natural world, and this is especially true in Southeast Asia, where the bad news piles up fast — not even two months into 2019.
The Malayan tiger subspecies is quickly being shown the door to extinction, according to a recent press release by the World Wildlife Foundation and tigers have already been wiped out from all of Indochina (Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam). Talk of “tiger sightings” in Cambodia has become something of a joke, which a recent case highlights. In this case, a cow was supposedly mauled to death by a tiger, two of which had been “spotted” in previous days in the vicinity. However, the cow had no puncture wounds to the neck, which is what is usually seen in India when a tiger takes down a cow, or any other puncture wounds that would suggest that a great cat had got its fangs or claws into it.
Mostly likely the cow was hit by a truck, the owner hacked on the back a few times with a machete and was hoping for government compensation. An official remarked: “Commune police and village police will take turns guarding the place where the attack occurred in case the tiger returns for the cow. Our team will also guard the area that the tiger is often seen passing, and if it is found I don’t know whether it will be killed or not. I need to wait for orders from senior authorities.”
Is this the future for the world’s largest cat – rumors, nonsense, and myth?
