Re: Happy Khmer New Year 2018
The family that runs my go-to lunch place did the same thing last year. This year they are closing for 10 days over KNY. Not sure if that means anything, but I have an idea that they are going to sell their lease in the coming months. They are close to Occheuteal beach works and the businesses around them are almost all Chinese now.
Any places still left on the beach must be crazy if they close for KNY. They should be making money while it's there. It won't last.

Well said. This thing is one of the Wonders in KOW.StroppyChops wrote: ↑Tue Apr 10, 2018 8:38 pm Can't help with your specific question, but I know that YOU know Khmer people check out a week before the weeks of KNY and Pchum Benh, making each a two-week holiday, with at least a week of vague stupidity before and after each event!
We love our crew and they're showing up for work on time, but it's like daylight saving, we've put the clock forward a week into dumb time.
(If you're a SJW and shocked that I'd say "dumb time" I don't care - it's a thing, get over it. You'll understand when you've lived here long enough.)

Social Justice Warrior. Not the good type. Picture millenials screeching or protesting about all the bad stuff in the world, but not doing anything other than liking or commenting on FB.Anchor Moy wrote: ↑Wed Apr 11, 2018 11:20 pmWhats a SJW btw ? Everything I come up with is too weird.
Incidentally, social justice != justice.

Re: Happy Khmer New Year 2018
A miracle! Here in sunny Sihanoukville, the power is back on so the celebrations can start. Nothing like a 6 hour power cut to see out the old year.
My two wishes for this new year are to have electricity for everyone and not just the tourist areas and casinos, and that someone will collect the rubbish. There's about two weeks worth of trash piling up on the roadsides, it stinks and there are rats. Chinese New Year everything is clean, why is Khmer NY like this ?
Happy New Year anyway, especially to my Khmer friends in SHV. It's been a hard year for a lot of people. Now they deserve a bit of fun.
Party's on - until the next power cut.
