The Great Escape - Cambodian style
Cambodian police showed shrewd psychological insight when this prisoner escaped from custody. They went to his house and waited for him to turn up. And sure enough...
Well done the police.
Police in Oddar Meanchey province have captured a prisoner who had escaped from custody last week while receiving medical treatment at the provincial hospital.
Prak Ean, 65, who is awaiting trial on a rape charge, was sent to the provincial hospital for treatment on Friday, when he managed to escape from custody while being guarded by two prison guards, according to police.
Police said yesterday that he was captured on Sunday at his home in Anlong Veng district’s Anlong Veng commune.
Mr Sophea noted that once prison officials informed police of the escape, he assumed that the accused might return home so he stationed his officers in the area.
“After his escape, the prison officers reported it to our police to help search for him, so we made the assumption that when after he escaped the prison he would have no money and would go back to his home,” he said. “So we deployed our forces near his house for two days and when he tried to get into his house on Sunday, we caught him.”
