The Phnom Penh Municipal Court on Tuesday found two French businessmen guilty of breaching the company’s trademark from 2012 to 2015

This was ages ago. I'd say they're long gone.
Probably already opened a chain of Smile Marts in Myanmar by now.

So this is what happened. You can never have enough Smiles, it seems.

According to court documents, Mr Dubigeon and Mr Herbaut were shareholders of Smile Dragon Asia Limited, a company they formed with other stakeholders in 2011 to operate mini marts in Phnom Penh.

The court said Mr Dubigeon was the chairman and co-owner of an existing company called Smile Retail Group LTD, which also operates mini marts.

Mr Dubigeon secretly formed Smile Dragon Asia Limited with Mr Herbaut in order to compete with Smile Retail Group.

The two formed the Smile Dragon Asia’s structure similarly as Smile Retail Group’s, attempting to cover up conflict of interest.

In May 2012, the men opened a chain of mini mart stores using the colours, uniforms, signage and logo similar to that owned by Smile Retail Group.

Major Seng Sokha, deputy chief of the investigations department with municipal immigration police, said that the two Frenchmen have fled the country.
“They are no longer in Cambodia,” he said.

21 May 2018, A Frenchman went on trial yesterday at Phnom Penh Municipal Court for allegedly breaching the trademark of a company he had been working for in 2011.

Pich Vicheathor, municipal court judge, said yesterday that Thomas Herbaut, 45, former vice president of Smile Dragon Asia, was charged with trademark infringement.

According to the judge, the municipal court found the suspect and his partner, Bruno Dubigeon, 47, former president of Smile Dragon Asia, guilty and sentenced both men in absentia last year while both men were at large.

The court then issued warrants for their arrest. On Saturday, Mr Herbaut was arrested by police in Phnom Penh and requested a retrial.

Khmer Times got the photo wrong. That's Bruno in the photo.... He was also a regular at GSM picking up 'girls', "the younger the better" he was said to say. Had an attractive Korean wife and kids too. The guy was always a sleaze in my opinion.

there is the 6-11 on Sivatha in Siem Reap.

Back to this story though, reading through the accusations sounds exactly like a hundred ones before where the Barang comes in gets the local business partner, local business partner steals idea replicates identically, stiffs the barang, end result barang loses the cash and nothing found against the local.

in this case it sounds like the tables were turned and maybe the local got stiffed which cannot happen of course.....
