We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. In yesterdays PPP it said

"Samnang added that Prime Minister HE had offered his condolences to Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull in Sydney on Friday morning, where both were attending the Asean-Australia Special Summit."

So lets think back to all the stories and rumor that was flying around then, did HE go up to Turnbull and say "sorry about the loss of your brave soldier, the de-mining experts who died training our army"

and Turnbull says "what are you on about we have no army boys there"

HE - "you know the army guys training in Kampong Speu"

Turnbull "no they are not army"

HE - bright red, loss of face. no wonder they dont want to talk about it

Definitely no comment.
The Phnom Penh Post quoted Kampong Speu Governor Vy Samnang as saying that Prime Minister HE had offered his condolences to Malcolm Turnbull in Sydney on Friday morning, where both were attending the ASEAN summit.

However, the Prime Minister's office declined to confirm that HE offered condolences.

"We do not comment on the detail of the conversations between leaders," a media adviser at the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet told the ABC.

In Kow favored option is on the contrary to add one more star so that they have to leave current lucrative position without any new placement but some imprecise ministry title with no desk attached.

Kampong Speu military base is closed after deaths
21 March 2018
A Kampong Speu shooting range believed to be the site of a fatal explosion that killed a Cambodian soldier and an Australian tourist late last week has temporarily closed.

The site, called “Cambodian Shooting Range” on Facebook, is marked as being in Kampong Speu province, where a bomb claimed the lives of two people and injured two others on Thursday

The shooting range is one of several in Cambodia located on military grounds where tourists can pay to shoot rifles, hurl grenades and fire bazookas. Despite Interior Ministry spokesman Khieu Sopheak saying the practice was illegal over a decade ago, it continues to thrive.

Evie Pettit, a British tourist, said she and a fellow traveller had booked an excursion to fire weapons in Kampong Speu through the B52 Hostel, and that the hostel promised them a “good discount”. She paid $50 to shoot an M16 rifle, while her friend forked out more to shoot a machine gun and rocket launcher. After the recent tragedy, Pettit said she looked back on the experience “in a totally different way”.

“Now that I look back on it, it didn’t seem very safe at all. I couldn’t see any safety measures for the weapons themselves . . . and where we shot from was literally a shack,” she said, showing photos of the range that also resembled those furnished from the scene of the blast. “We didn’t have protective eyewear either.”

Pettit said a man from the hostel drove the pair to the location and encouraged them to buy beers along the way. The weapons were kept in a cart and Cambodians supervising the shooting range were “drinking brandy and beers”.
