We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. Even if your passport is expired or lost and you knew you were a wanted man I wouldn’t go anywhere near that embassy. He must incredibly stupid or knew his fate and turned himself in.

I think people just don't know what the embassy runs background checks and also refuses passport services and orchestrates your arrest if you have a felony warrant.

In November 2016, Hagen was arrested for felony DUI
DUI is a felony?

you lose the right to buy a gun and vote for being .001 over the blood alcohol limit?

mind you, under the three strikes rule one guy got 25 years for taking a slice of pizza off of someone else.

It depends on each state's law but it can be a felony if you have multiple prior convictions for it, or if you're in an accident, or if you're driving on a suspended license, etc. First offense routine DUI is a misdemeanor.

In any event, driving drunk is a dumb thing to do if you have a suspended sentence hanging over your head after pleading guilty to sexual assault.

Hell, I thought even excessive speeding can be a felony.

REAL STORY:
He was trying to get back to the US to turn himself in where he was wanted in Alaska but he lost his passport on the trip back up to Phnom Penh so had to go to the embassy to renew or give him a temporary. He did not know they report to local authorities as Cambodia does not have an extradition treaty with the US. However, he did think there was a good chance the embassy would detain him, but instead, they just told him they knew he had an arrest warrant out and they recommended he get back to the US as soon as possible and that he would be able to come back to get his One-Way Passport in 24 hours. He did so, and after picking up his 10-day passport back to the US, while waiting out front of the embassy for a tuk tuk driver, local authorities nabbed him and put him in the van. They took him to the Department of Immigration where’s been detained for two days. He will be escorted back to Alaska on a flight within a couple of days.

By the way, the report which states he was wanted by the FBI for several “High profile rape cases” is 100% false. He’s wanted on a 2nd degree sexual assault, a felony DUI and a felony failure to appear. History: He was put on a five-year probation for 2nd degree sexual assault (which was a fabricated story) in 2011 and then arrested in November 2016 for drunk driving at the very end of his probabation period, reopening the previous case in 2011. He was in an alcohol rehabilitation program for almost a year and got released from the program for having a lighter, which is against their rules. He then left the country to avoid going back to jail and was charged with a felony failure to appear. He is actually a good person making small bad desicions with huge consequences. The US justice system has failed him over and over. This isn’t Justice for anyone.

He was charged with burglary, kidnapping, and sexual assault. How and why was that fabricated? What happened?

assume he had $$$ as the US, WONT pay to repatriate you back to the states. AS he was NOT arrested by the US authorities..

We have an outreach program for US citizens here in Phuket,3x /year the US consolur comes down to allow us to
get a new passport, get a notary, file report of child born abroad, ask for assistance etc etc.
this trip down the head consolur came down and explained what the US embassy can and cant do for a US citizen.
very informative
