Sihanoukville casino workers from Lion Casino protest over unpaid wages

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

The hallmark of Chinese mass tourism is the flag held high by the tour leader and the tour group in a line following. No stopping off till leader says " We go here". Thats a Chinese owned joint.

No sign of Chinese mass tourism in Sihanoukville so far!!

Looking like the Chinese businesses opening over past 6 months may have their timing wrong. Still a way off before the projected 500,000 Chinese a year visiting Sihanoukville start showing up (if at all).. Meantime rent and wages must be paid. Looking like a few Chinese businesses 'calling for oxygen'.

At the end of the day the Chinese Government will ensure Hainan Island is a great success. This may well leave Sihanoukville dream a bit of a nightmare.

I think sihanoukville needs some infrastructure before those tourists start arriving en masse there. They prefer to walk from what I've seen when doing the giant flag tours. I'm sure this is all btc money being cleaned here and that's drying up pretty quickly because of all the Chinese regulations around crypto.

Hainan will not pay out in dollars or euros, so it is irrelevant. Cambodian casinos pay out in USD.
