But has now the official retirement age in Cambodia seems to be a problem to some agents.

It seems that all agents all over are getting different info. There's a FB page for Cambodia visa work permits, but they can only try and untangle the confusion so much. Kingdom of beating our heads on a brick wall. :BangHead:

Yes! When I went on the site it confused me too. Whom is at fault, immigration, agents, or ourselves.

800,000 in Bank
OR
a pension =to 65,000 baht /month
OR
a combination of the 2 adding up up to 800,000/year
2 questions about Thailand if you don't mind:

- If you need to deposit an amount in the bank, do you have to keep it for the whole year or is it enough to have during the process only?
- do you need to have an address in Thailand for applying or you can do this simply through an agent like in Cambodia

There are lots of ways to stay in Thailand including many that aren't mentioned. In some parts of Thailand you can still enroll in classes and get an education visa with little to no obligation to actually study anything. It's not nearly as cheap as a one year visa renewal here though.

The easiest two places in Southeast Asia for Americans to stay now that things have changed here seem to be Vietnam and the Philippines. $135 gets an American a one year multi-entry visa for Vietnam on arrival with no questions asked. In the Philippines you can just keep renewing your tourist stay over and over again.

There are some places in other parts of the world where you can stay a year visa free, or half a year visa free then a quick hop over the border and back for another half year.

IF ur over 50, Thailand is much easier/cheaper to stay/live than Cambodia..and the rules dont change ever week.... :plus1:
your 800,000
first application 2 months, after that 3 months before u apply. ( i do the combination method an my money in the bank is never more than 150,000 baht)
You NEED an address but it can be a hotel/gh, You need file a notification of residence ( free) and anyway, to open a bank account u need a address.
Plenty of agents will take ur money and do it for u, there are even agents that will do it even if u dont have any money in the bank ( those cost around 24,000 baht)

ALL parts of thailand IF there is a recognized school.training facility...
Courses run about 25-30,000 baht/year and will give u all paperwork to get ur 1 year visa,( you still need pay for it) You DO Need go to school (or at least learn thai), as from the 2nd application on, the immigration will question u in thai...
You DONT have to only study thai, u can study cooking, Muay Thai, Massage, another foreign language, just about anything from a recolonized school.

You can also get an Education visa in Cambodia, the ES (student) EOS . Same price as other E-type EOSs. You just need to have a letter from the educational institute you are enrolled in and proof of sufficient funds for your stay.

Nathan Thompson is reporting on Twitter that the Cambodian government will no longer issue long-term visas without you holding a work permit, effective 1 September. By long-term visas, I assume he means 6mth and 12mth Extensions of Stay.
I'm not sure what his source is, but Nathan is the head of the Overseas Press Club in Cambodia; I wouldn't dismiss it as scuttlebutt just yet.
If true, it's not a surprising development but it will obviously impact many many expats, including not a few posters here.

This was just posted on TOF; I hope I haven't breached forum etiquette by cutting and pasting here. If Scobie's claim is true however, it could affect many expats here, including posters on this forum.

given the antics of some people, it is not really surprising.
i notice many openly critical and insulting posts regarding administration on some of the fb groups.
i am very certain that some of those individuals will find it impossible to get EOS
even those using anonymous handles will be very readily identified through various technical means
