Occheuteal development is halted by the highest authority

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Is this the main strip on Occheauteal that has been completely razed, fenced and pictures of a huge mixed development posted around the fence?
This is utterly insane.
How can they bulldoze the country's premier beach destination and then change their minds?
That is insane beyond belief even by Cambodian standards.

They're offering to rent it back now, to the people they kicked off.

Yeah I'm not suprised about that, but the fact it was done to the No. 1 tourist beach destination in this country is shocking.
What are they offering to rent back if the entire place was bulldozed? The old owners are going to build those crappy little buildings again?
Ridiculous.

I’m pretty sure that’s not true.

If they rebuild small cafe, restaurants and bars it needs to be done to a high standard. Infrastucture first!! Sewage etc sorted. Allow for adequate toilets at each establishment for a start.

Shacks no!!!

Priority given to ordinary Khmer to own. Limit Chinese. Let the locals get the benifit of the location.

Set standards of care for the beach front. Noise restrictions in place after 1pm.

Good to go!!!! ( nice to dream)

With limited hotels for Khmer and westerners to stay. Who will be the trade, day trippers?
Always "hope" but never "expect".

Hopefully some of the bars and nightclubs can come back. Locally or expat owned. But no Chinese. So what happened at this meeting?

Let me guess,,,, They sat down and discussed amongst themselves who they should invite to a meeting that will discuss plans and development and when those invited will be able to attend a meeting sometime in the future after the rice harvest and before the mango season.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.
