Kit Meng owns the site and he is the bagman for you know who so it is all a bit odd. A few years ago I was asked for my opinion on building luxury houses on the land. Could this be the beginning of the end or the end of the beginning for the Chinese down there. It certainly looks good with no buildings or fences.

The missus went to the meeting yesterday. Apparently this is a nice area for some restaurants and bars... There will be rebuilding, who pays is not determined, exactly what is not determined but everyone is in his thoughts and prayers. The fence has come down, yay! Then he flew off in his helicopter.

Thoughts and prayers is so sweet. I hope they appreciate it. O:-)
I guess there'll be some rebuilding of shacks, and higher rents for the rainy season, when there are no customers.
Then everyone will get kicked out again when the money for the development comes through. They will be in my TAP.

Not likely to happen in the long term as money talks but if the idea is to get Khmer back in business in that area then thats positive news.

The issue for most is the complete swamping of Khmer and Barang businesses in Sihanoukville by the Chinese.

If HE has turned the tide and wants small Khmer run businesses back in the prime spot it will put some balance back in the place. I for one say this is welcome news!!!!

However doubt the money will be spent on setting it up to the standard required.

Chinese will eventually push everyone out again is a safe bet.

Sihanoukville: Occheuteal beach project officially suspended

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

1 hour ago - BREAKING NEWS
Sihanoukville project suspended
A construction project by a company owned by Ly Lay near Ochheuteal Beach in Sihanoukville has been suspended following an order by Prime Minister HE.

Sihanoukville governor Y Sokleng said yesterday that after Mr HE made the order on Friday, a working group of the Coastal Management Committee inspected and then suspended the project for not having permission from relevant institutions.

He added the proposed seven-floor building would also affect the beauty of the beach.

“The location had not obtained legal permission from the Ministry of Land Management to construct the building yet, but they have installed a fence, pillars and building foundation drilling equipment. But they haven’t started building yet as they are working on the legal documents,” he said.

“But when Mr HE visited and saw that its construction could affect the beauty of Ochheuteal Beach, he advised suspending construction.”

A letter from City Hall on Friday told Mr Lay to halt the construction project immediately, and to remove the fence, machinery and equipment from the construction site.

Exactly. Note that they had no permits anyhow, but mysteriously nobody did anything until the boss turns up.
