New Korean Samsung galaxy phones? Real or fake?

Post by superferret »

I've been shopping around for some older models like the Note 3 and Note 4.
What's unusual is that the prices for second hand phones are similar or identical to brand new ones that are found in a few shops.

To give an example, the going rate now for a used Galaxy note 4 is 115-140 USD, I've checked many shops,
however I found a shop that sells brand new ones for 125. The same shop also sells the used ones for 10 dollars less!
When I tested the brand new one it really did seem original in all aspects though I did not do any benchmarks.
The shopkeeper told me it's completely original, however at another shop they told me the old ones are better?

It's also unusual they still sell these old models brand new, does Samsung still manufacture these in some factories?

Anyone know what's the deal?

Based on what you've said, no real way to know, unless you do some benchmarks.

Download a benchmark app and test them out. $125 for a Samsung Note 4 seems to be a steal. I had that phone for quite a while and loved it.

. A while back when I was at MBK in Thailand looking at Samsung phones, there were signs hanging in some of the small stores stating that a customer could call a certain number to find out if the phone was real or fake. The problem was that I could not determine if that was real or a scam.

I don't know the name, it's in Stung Meanchey on the main drag on the right side, a small phone shop, but I've seen these new ones at various shops in the past too.

Calling *#06# will reveal the IMEI number. Check that number on imeipro.info
Read the report and if all seems good then also check that the phone details in the report (including the IMEI number) match what you see on the actual phone. Please report back what you discover.

Thanks, that was really useful. I just bought a used Note 4 for 120. I went to the shop that was selling for 110 but when I started testing the phone the saleslady got hysterical. So I went next door where they allowed me to test everything, even running Antutu benchmarks. I tested everything and did not find any problems.
Note the Antutu version 6 score should be around 66000, but since it was so hot in Cambodia at the shops, the processor overheats and testing at the shop it gave me only around 45000. At home with aircon I'm getting the 66000.
I downloaded antutu 6.2.7 apk from the internet and took it to the shop on a pendrive with an OTG cable, and installed there.
It's an awsome phone at a great price.
