Thailand is the only country I've been in when bombs went off near me (Khao Lak, Aug. 12, 2016).

Most Europeans either don't like Americans or have mixed feelings, but 99% of Khmers can't tell the difference between you and a French or a German,
so no worries.

best-case scenario wrote: Sun Feb 18, 2018 5:32 am I always travel Cambodia by off-road motorcycle, which isn't safe in and of itself. I expect I'll have to pay the Golden Lions Circle bribe a few times down in Sihanoukville per usual. But just so long as I can avoid additional entanglements. thanks!
I think things may have changed a bit in shanghaiville s8nce your last visit. I havent even seen a police checkpoint near red lion in my last 3 tips. You might want to bring a chinese phrasebook though....

There have been many massacres in Thailand since, things have calmed down in Cambodia and there haven't been any massacres in more than two decades. Thailand is very unstable.

dont take some of the posters too serious. They are vagrant individuals who came over from another online place related to Cambodia. As they have past their best before date they cant stop old habits while not being banned due to their state of mind and the benevolence of the administrator. It is like the village fool of the old days, just in higher numbers.
You won't have any problems as a tourist. Keep your clothes on and if you have some interest in a local or foreign woman, express it behind closed doors. Be careful with street food, not as clean as in Thailand. That might be your biggest problem. The long terms effects of that food can be studied with the above described cases.

Have a nice trip and enjoy your time :)

9 bombs 5 places,2 dead...
all about the southern separatists an very seldom reaches further north than Hat yai, we have been wondering for 20 years when one would go off on Soi Bangla. BUT as long as they are NOT targeting tourists ( as they did in Bali) the international media doe snot play it up.
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

It is probably coming your way from Syria. isis in the Philipines, will get to Burma and Thailand soon (probably already there but biding their time) . Any conflict zone involving Muslim separatists is prime real estate to them. :(
