Could it get any worse than this ?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

they used to say "america, love it or leave it." so i left circa 1972.
it kind of stifles debate though.

Expats are waxing lyrical about the “old” SHV as if it was some modern paradise. It was a shithole in 2014 and is now.

I’ve always said. If you don’t like it fuck off back home.
But it was ok 2011 to 2014 :hattip:

i think the ease of visas for long termers, the ability to start a little low key business, and the fact that the Khmer people had not been exposed to decades of tourism were the prime attractants in any perceived "golden age"
PP seemed to have about half the people when i first visited in 2007 compared to the current population.
People were poorer.

Yes, they were poorer, but at least had not yet adopted the arrogant predilection for being ostentatious.
As my old Cajun bait seller used to say, "I opes you luck.

I think GSM will be much nicer after the remodelling job but the problem is to find a good mix of customers.
I mean the business owners who rent these new bars want some normal people with money but those people could be scared away by some of the regular customers.
Yesterday for example, I wanted to go into one of these places to have a drink but had to go around the corner because the people who sat there, how can I put it, they just did not look inviting.
And I am not really sensitive about that normally.
One was wearing a T-shirt that said "I fart in your direction"

Koh Samui was ace in the early 90s. Anyone could setup a business, cheap beer cheap girls. Then the investors came.
