Can I do the tourist visa extension myself?

Post by superferret »

I recall a post recently about someone who was able to extend their visa at immigration way below the agent fees,
I believe he said it really was not a difficult process, if you bother.
Anyone have recent experience trying to extend a tourist visa for one month at Immigration? Is any documentation needed and what would it cost?
Agents are quoting 50-53 so I'm trying to weigh if it's worth it. Would be great to cut out these middlemen stuffing their pockets with our money for years and bring some civilization to Cambodia re. the visa extensions.
thank you

The Officers at the Immigration Dept will charge you the same as most agents, most travel agents charge about $45 for the 1 mth EOS, it’s not that expensive and will save you the hassle of travelling to and having to deal with the DoI.

For years? Surely you've only been here a month? Good luck with your "white man's burden".

Of course you can. Just go to the DOI and follow their directions........................................................ then tell us how much it cost you to be a frugal visitor.

The last time I visited the noble men and women of the Immigration department they were not charging any extras on top of the official fee for an extension of a tourist visa.

I saw around six tourists get their extensions sorted that way.

However, for the time and hassle it's much easier to use an agent and just pay the exra few quid.

Jerry...how do you know they weren’t tacking on any extra fees, do you know the official fees?

Genuinely interested, thanks.

Is 45 the written, official price at immigration?
My hotel wants 53 and I just called lucky lucky to ask them for their BEST price, and they said 47. Any agents better than Lucky Lucky?

It's a matter of principle too. John, I travel around nowadays so often use the 1-2 month tourist visa. Thanks

As PSD pointed out, the official price is $45, and it seems Lucky Lucky will do it for you for $47.

Unless you have a valid personal grievance against Lucky Lucky, I'd say that's your best bet is to do it at Lucky's, as I can't see any more effort on your part being worth saving $2, which also seems reasonable.

They often offer the best rates, so I doubt you'd find cheaper than $47 always.

Ask yourself if you were an agent, would you work for free?
Always "hope" but never "expect".
