3 Dutchmen arrested for filming with drone in restricted area, Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Being 50 years younger than some of you old farts doesn't mean they're little kids. They're grown men who knew damn well what they were doing. You don't accidentally fly a drone over the PM's house (or whatever restricted area it was).

Well, in their defense.... It's not like there's marks saying "Prime minister's house".

Maybe they were making a documentary about the serial kiddy rapist who used to live next door, for example?

The German parliament doesn't look like a parliament; won't be an excuse if you fly a drone over it.

And I'd be extra cautious if there is shit-loads of heavily armed police about; might indicate that flying a drone might not be a good idea.

Exactly this, it only takes 2 secs to get their attention, point at the drone and ask "ok?" Especially the one who is a photographer for a media company should have known this.

Some of these young adults fly to places like Cambodia thinking their youth gives them license to do the crap they can't or won't do back home and their western identities will shield them from local laws. We're seeing this play out in Siem Reap and Phnom Pehn. I don't think they should be sent to prison. Hopefully, SEA isn't taking lessons from North Korea, but they shouldn't go free without some life teaching penalty like community service.

Here's what I received from the Cambodian Embassy in DC. Hopefully more information when I arrive in PP. Will post if anything useful.
