Get along to Chhlong
26 January 2018
For those looking to get out of Phnom Penh and soak up some of colonial Cambodia, the place to go is Chhlong, about 31 kilometres south of Kratie. Chhlong is a quiet riverside town dotted with old French colonial buildings. For those interested in colonial architecture, one of the main attractions in Chhlong is the old governor’s residence, a beautiful yellow and white mansion near the river.

It was once a classy boutique hotel and there are rumours it will reopen after some renovations sometime this year. Another classic building is the House of a Hundred Pillars, which was built in 1884. According to local legend, the Khmer Rouge removed many of the pillars, so now only 56 remain.

There are many more run-down French colonial buildings lining the river. Chhlong was once a bustling port for traders from France and China, something that can be seen in the old buildings along the waterfront.

Nice pics. It looks like Chhlong hasn't changed an inch in years. They were talking about the renovation and reopening of the governor's house years ago and that doesn't seem any closer to happening.
For anyone who might want to visit Chhlong, AFAIK there is no western style accommodation, only a few Khmer roadside guesthouses. The best idea would be to stay in Kratie and hire a motorbike to check out the Cham villages on the Mekong road between Kratie and Chhlong, then stop in Chhlong for lunch and beers and take in the sights. An hour or two is probably enough. It's a very small sleepy little town.

The hotel has been renovated and i think they have added some rooms, it only had five previously. I shall ride a moto down there shortly.
