Khmer driving licence - really?

Post by kennzo »

Motorbike:
So I've had a Khmer driving licenses in the past, but then got lazy on the annual renewal.
So my questions:

#1. I have a full EU driving license, am I breaking the law by driving a motorbike in Cambodia without a Khmer license?

#2. Assuming I need a Khmer driving licence, is there any option to get something that lasts longer than one year?

Thanks

I tend to sleep in the nude. Which isn't a bad thing except for maybe on those long flights.

1 if you are driving a car or riding anything larger than a 125 then yes
2 you can get a 10 year license if you sit the test

#1: Yes. Only a Cambodian Licence is accepted here and furthermore - ARTICLE 74:
Those who are driving the vehicles without the driving licenses or in the time their driving licenses are removed, suspended, or nullified, shall be jailed from six days to one month and fined from Riel 25,000 to Riel 200,000.

#2: You can get a Cambodian licence if you take traffic rules and driving test, this one last for 10 years if I remember correctly.

Double that. Need Cambodian driver license for a car or a moto bigger than 125 cc

Not sure it is 10 years if you sit the test though
Before you criticise someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticise them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes

It is 10 years or until you are xx years old. i think it may be 67 or something. it was posted somewhere in the forums. So if you are 60 you get 7 years not 10

if you have a valid foreign license for the class of vehicle you want to drive you can get a 1 year without the test but foreigners are not allowed to drive certain vehicles apparenly. Anything over 6 seats i think, maybe 7 and goods vehices

They have one in English... Well, somewhat. Lots of "Huh?!" moments. I think they used Google translate.

#1: Yes, you do, even with international driving license.

#2: Assuming you're khmer, you can renew it for 10 years.

There's an extremely slim chance of me holding an EU driving license AND being Khmer, not impossible, but slim!
