Rent a house in Battambang province

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. So is Battambang the new destination for the barang diaspora? I've seen a number of people saying they are upping sticks and moving to BB. Guess house prices in Kampot are now prohibitive.

You could try asking on a forum called Living in Cambodia, it's a very sleepy site so don't expect a lot of reply's but the owner Paul has been living there for quite some time & may be able to help.

Thanks
Serious question, why if you've never been there have you chosen Battambang and not only that but to live so remotely? As mentioned, you;d best know some of the language.

On another point make sure the house you choose is raised, it can get very flooded out there at the height of wet season, you got the river, lake and dam nearby.
Well I like city Battambang. When I look at the map there is the city and 15-20km from there is 5-6 villages. I don't want specifically to live that far. But I want to live in rural area. And because the villages are located 15-20km from the city i put this distance from the town (again just google map). I was considering also preah vihear and stung treng. But not sure how easy will be to find house in those provinces. I never been there. And my budget is limited. I can not travel 2-3 weeks looking for house.

Ok thanks for the update, my error I read it that you'd never been to Batambang rather than just not visiting the surrounding villages.
This guy was selling one outside of BB so maybe worth dropping him an email? he was selling as he didnt like being stuck out there

Rents are high there, mostly thanks to the Japanese/Korean NGOs who gave their staff a $400 housing allowance...brilliant idea, guys.

Sir, you look partment?

Yes, but I only have $400

No problem, Sir, I find you nice place (tee-hee)

Ok thanks I will. I like the place looks really nice. The only problem I will start searching end of February. Actually is my fault. English is not my native. I have been to Battambang city, PP city and Sihanouk City. But I never been to a rural area. I call them province. But I guess here everything that is not PP is called Province :).

I will let you know if I find one ok :beer3: I'm guessing the mines might be in a open field not in a villages. Just a guess. I will keep you update though.
