New license plates?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

New license plates?

Post by newkidontheblock »

Saw some new style license plates on the expensive fancy cars. A bit wider, a bit shorter than the ordinary car plates. Cars seem to be designed for these plates. What’s the deal? Cars coming from different location? Specially made for Cambodia?

They're known as 'euro plates' in Australia, for euro cars, and social climber models made outside euro. Nothing new.

Just for fun scan the QR code - it gives you a link to a website where all the info about the vehicle and registered owner resides and lots of other info

Same as the ones on vehicle rego cards and drivers licenses - no privacy at all

In Cambodia? You really think the qr code or the website will actually work and be in English

Pretty certain the plate QR code doesn't show the owners address.

The registration card QR code does.

Yes. Sun Chantol was in charge of the ministry when it was implemented, iirc. He's one of the few ministers that actually gets things working.

My registration card QR goes here:

Edit, the two "English" tabs caused by chrome's auto translate feature. The left one should be Khmer.

When you scan license plate, it doesn't show name, address or any other similar personal information. Only details about the vehicle.
