Riverside tuktuk driver arrested for drug dealing

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Smoking marijuana was only made illegal by UNTAC law and wasn't enforced till after 1997. As for smoking cigarettes in bars/ restaurants, I haven't noticed much enforcement at all.

What about the use of ganja as a herb in food?
I was searching my Google photo app for another document this morning and came across a photo I took in 2014 of a page of an old edition grade 1 Khmer language book that has "កញ្ឆា" as one of the basic example words for that but phonetic blend. I'd guess state textbook was from 2009/2010. Its use as a flavouring ingredient in Cambodian food must have been pretty common.

I think you must be stoned Rama, as I can't see កញ្ឆា anywhere on that piece of paper?

I'm pretty sure some of the mobile sellers are still selling ganja soup, and I'm fairly sure it's still legal to grow, I think it's three or four plants, for souping purposes. I guess its a bit like the right turn at red lights law - they still get you for it eventhough it's not illegal.

OK, different script. BTW, when did they start using the more flowery, older looking font style? I have always though the script used in the 60's was pretty nice.

Something along the lines of this, used in the 60's I think under the Sangkum Reastre.

Is it legal to turn right at red? I think in some countries only if there is a sign permitting it and definitely not if there is a right turn filter. Any traffic cops in the house.

The joys of being paid by American tobacco companies.

Invading countries and killing millions to steal their resources is kosher, smoking weed is a deadly evil.

Rules of the Road
As well as clarifying a few things are not actually against the law, such as turning right at red lights (i.e. Article 11) – news for Europeans if not North Americans – and that no, it is not against the law to drive with your lights on during the day (i.e. Article 27, point 1, subsection D), the law, however, clarified which driving offenses were punishable by fines. http://www.khmertimeskh.com/news/28941/ ... -the-road/

Article 11 LAW On ROAD TRAFFIC
When the traffic light indicates in yellow, it signals drivers to take cautions and to prepare to stop. When the traffic light indicated in green, it signals drivers their vehicles are allowed to move on. When the traffic light indicates in red, it signals drivers to stop.
When the traffic red light is on, it signals drivers to stop in front of the white zebra crossing or pedestrian crossing. However, if there is no obstacle a head, the vehicles on the most right, may carefully turn right, except if there is a red arrow light indicating otherwise.

So if no cops around, you can turn right on a red light if barang?
