Re: Cambodia and China: Rewriting (and Repeating) History
Yet nobody listens.................least of all the Khmer people who will be the ones suffering and will suffer. Other nationalities can leave anytime they want but Khmer have no where to go so are at the mercy of their governments decisions.
Many high profile Khmer have financial backups and can jump ship if their boat flounders and some even have dual citizenship so are safe.
The family below with a stall on the street selling coffee and tea have nowhere to go........................

I guess they kiss and made up, with ASEAN and all, and Cambodia voting on a sea it has no border with, haha!.
Buy Cambodia ... I guess that's what happens when the West really doesn't help to improve Cambodia ... Then a real neighbor does ...
Why aren't all those NGOs welcome here? 'Cause they mostly did nothing on a huge salary.
China is actually helping Cambodia with its growing pains.
Real investment and improvements.
The West is eating crow right now.

Melvin Udall: Never, never, interrupt me, okay?
Not if there's a fire, not even if you hear the sound of a thud from my home and one week later there's a smell coming from there that can only be a decaying human body and you have to hold a hanky to your face because the stench is so thick that you think you're going to faint.
Even then, don't come knocking...Not for ANY reason.

China's not "helping" anyone, China has always been run on the same principles, the Qing, the Ming, the current so-called communist party, they all read Sun Tzu's Art of War and Confucianist bullshit. They want resources, they want you to kow-tow to the Empire of the Sun, here's some goild show obeisance.SmartAston Martin wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2018 12:15 pm I guess they kiss and made up, with ASEAN and all, and Cambodia voting on a sea it has no border with, haha!.

Funny to think the west throws millions at fighting wars claiming it is down to protect the national interest or to save the people from tyrants and create economic mayhem, refugee crises and death and destruction but that's ok cos its the westand its done by democracies. The modern Chinese protect their interests by buying co-operation. throw millions into development and job creation. Still not necessarily good for the locals in the long term, but they are not killing people in far away lands or forcing them to become refugees so maybe its a more humane way of getting what they want. If the west spent the same amount as it spends on armed intervention to build roads and factories it would probably more effective and china would be stalledcptrelentless wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2018 9:32 pmChina's not "helping" anyone, China has always been run on the same principles, the Qing, the Ming, the current so-called communist party, they all read Sun Tzu's Art of War and Confucianist bullshit. True in some ways, but China is totally destroying the environments and fauna of the countries they visit, they are treating locals like dirt, they are destroying certain jobs because locals cannot competepczz wrote: ↑Sun Jan 14, 2018 11:05 amFunny to think the west throws millions at fighting wars claiming it is down to protect the national interest or to save the people from tyrants and create economic mayhem, refugee crises and death and destruction but that's ok cos its the westand its done by democracies. They will also impose 99-year leases to effectively control strategic areas such as ports etc. when countries default, and they WILL default.
I'm glad that the west is slowly losing ground, their tenure has been marked by militaristic capitalism masquerading as democracy/ the guardian of Christian civilisation
I just wish it were almost any nation EXCEPT China taking over, it may be less militaristic for now, it will be worse in many ways

Re: Cambodia and China: Rewriting (and Repeating) History
What jobs in particular are they destroying?
Re: Cambodia and China: Rewriting (and Repeating) History
If you consider one group of powerful wealthy humans different to another group of powerful wealthy humans, my advice : just wait. Don't denigrate all that we have achieved as the underdogs in European societies. You'll be telling us that you wish you'd been born in China next.Cruisemonkey wrote: ↑Sun Jan 14, 2018 11:42 ampczz wrote: ↑Sun Jan 14, 2018 11:05 am Funny to think the west throws millions at fighting wars claiming it is down to protect the national interest or to save the people from tyrants and create economic mayhem, refugee crises and death and destruction but that's ok cos its the westand its done by democracies. Re: Cambodia and China: Rewriting (and Repeating) History
Small businesses like restaurants, guesthouses, etc, just for starters..witness Sinville..it's not just a Cambodian phenomenon
They bring malls, bus companies, railways etc, which do have certain advantages, but for poor/uneducated/unskilled traders and tuk-tuks/motodops, it's overs.
It's a result of globalisation, just different players in different countries
