Drug mule admits $30,000 cocaine run
June 4, 2018
A 34-year-old Belgian man today admitted bringing more than a kilo of cocaine into Cambodia.

David Noel Catry made the admission in Phnom Penh Municipal Court where he went for on trial for transporting drugs and trafficking.

Presiding Judge Meng Tony said Mr Catry was arrested on January 10 by officers from Interior Ministry anti-drug police in collaboration with customs and excise and immigration police based at Phnom Penh International Airport.

Court deputy prosecutor said Mr Catry was stopped after he arrived from Brazil.

“He was arrested after police inspected his suitcase and found the drugs hidden inside it,” he said. “After inspecting his suitcase, police seized 1003.24 grams of cocaine which were wrapped in plastic and put at the bottom of his suitcase.”

In court, Mr Catry confessed that he had been offered $30,000 by a Brazilian man named Tang Guise to bring the cocaine from Brazil to give to an unidentified Nigerian man in Cambodia.

Phnom Penh: On June 22, 2018, a Belgian man, DAVID NOEL CATRY, was sentenced to life imprisonment, Cambodia's harshest sentence for drug trafficking, at Phnom Penh Municipal Court.
Mr Catry, a Belgian expat living in Cambodia, was arrested at Phnom Penh International Airport on January 10, 2018 with 1003.24 grams of cocaine that he transported in his suitcase from Brazil. He said that, once in Cambodia, he was expected to pass on the drug to an unknown Nigerian, and in return he would receive $3,000 for his service as a drug mule.
Instead, if Mr Catry serves out a full term, he will spend the rest of his life in Prey Sar prison, Phnom Penh.

I asked on TOF: how long is a life sentence in Cambodia?

For a measly 3 grand; the mind boggles.
