Yep. That's about what I paid. :thumb:

Sorry, that's what you paid for what and going where? I was confused by WackyJacks comment but I must have missed something in the slew of slightly unhelpful comments ;P

Thanks!

I did my 4-week CELTA course in Vietnam and paid about $1,400 USD for it.

It's accredited through the University of Cambridge, so that should speak for itself.

It's funny to think some people take another course that costs more, when they have the opportunity to get the CELTA. Seems silly.

It would have been more helpful if you had wanted to teach English in Cambodia. True story, ask Bosco. Image

tbh, I realise CELTA is number 1, but much of that is via marketing deals, not through content.

Some TEFL/TESOL courses are also rigorous, but I believe Cambridge has an agenda in persuading many organisations to only hire CELTA holders, and part of this strategy is to fail a quota to create a false sense of value.

If you cannot see the monetary implications thereof, and do not question the ethics, you're naive.

End of discussion, really, LoL.

I think the ones that are really guilty of this unethical marketing you talk about are the no-names that charge a lot more than the Cambridge one and might not even be as good.

You seem to be against anything that makes money...."hidden agendas"....... LoL, and the other ones do it out of the kindness of their hearts alone, or only to improve education around the world?

You always come off bitter that you've made poor choices that landed you where you are.

The CELTA is the best because it's the best.

I honestly doubt you have what it takes to pass, and when you failed you'd fall back on the "well, they have to fail a certain number, and they randomly choose ME....."

The Trinity program is probably just as good, but it's got no panache.

Agreed.

However, when you have to start using phrases like "probably" and "just as good" it suggests you're comparing the CELTA to inferior alternatives.

Nobody ever says "the trinity is probably just as good as a CELTA..."

And to my knowledge, the Trinity isn't offered in this area..

Dog, you can be so naffy, are you and gavinmac linked at the hip?

You're the guy in the lousiest country on the planet, not me.

I'm not bitter about it. Many TESOL/TEFL courses cover almost exactly what the CELTA does. If you take the time to compare the content of the courses, you will see that. The reputation has been enhanced by the deals, that's all.

You're the one recommending courses in Cambodia to people that don't come anywhere near a CELTA or even a decent TEFL in Thailand. Why? Just tell people, there is no decent course available in Cambodia yet.Soon, maybe.

I was simply making a statement. Yes, I should have done the CELTA rather than the TEFL, but it wasn't even available back home when I did he TEFL, so there was no choice. It's probably unlikely that I will do one now, so that's the situation.

I'm still earning close to or more than what several people with CELTAs are getting, with no teaching hours (but to be honest, the stress involved in admin/ planning is not pretty)
