KEP - Eight people were slightly injured by a firework explosion as a large crowd celebrated the countdown to the New Year on a beach in Kep province on Sunday night.
Ing Sam Ol, provincial police chief, said yesterday that the explosion was caused by a technical error, and added that all eight people injured were sent to hospital for treatment.
Mr Sam Ol said that the fireworks exploded at 11pm on Sunday night at Kep beach, where local authorities had prepared a fireworks show to welcome the New Year.
“The fireworks exploded and caused eight people to get slightly injured, three of them women. They were quickly sent to hospital for help,” he said.
“It did not cause a serious problem,” he added. “The explosion was the result of careless planning; it was a technical error, but now all is back to normal.”
Mr Sam Ol said there were about 100,000 local and foreign visitors gathered at the beach to celebrate the countdown to the New Year.
“All the victims were treated at Kep provincial hospital and they already left for their homes,” he said, adding four fire-trucks were needed to put out the fire...

A Khmer friend said he could not get into accommodation in Shitville so ended up in Battambang. So much for the Khmer holiday destination for families.........cptrelentless wrote: ↑Tue Jan 02, 2018 4:15 pm
