Record 1 million American visitors to Thailand in 2017

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Contrary to the popular beliefs of the ill-informed, not everyone in the USA is an ass-baring graffiti vandal.

People everywhere should realize that in Thailand lying is an excepted part of the culture, and it permeates every aspect of society.

Since they outright lie about road traffic deaths to keep the tourists coming, why wouldn't they also lie about tourist numbers, to also keep the tourists coming?

Keeping the days available on a visa to a low number just drives revenue for the country and artificially inflates the tourist numbers. The larger part of that 1 million number is probably someone making a visa run.

what BS :please:

Cambodia pay for 30 days, Laos pay for 30 days, Burma pay for 28 days
Thailand FREE for 45 countries for 30 day ( and 5 more get 90 days)
pay for 60 days and extend for another 30 without leaving,( none of the other countries can u do this on a tourist visa)

Most Americans come as tourists, not living here ( sorry no stats, but from what i have seen over 32 years)

do agree thai's lie abut everything ( i tell my Khmer gf not to believe anything any of her thai friends tell her, especially if its about money or how much her new xxx cost) its 100% accepted..... not even any shame in being caught in an outright lie. :plus1:
why wouldn't they also lie about tourist numbers, to also keep the tourists coming?
I dont get it, how does saying 1 million Americans came or 35 million tourists came have anything to do with keeping more coming??
I would prefer gong to Burma where LESS are going.
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

I've disagreed with you before about Thailand, PR, and I'm going to disagree with you again. I know you have a love affair with Thailand and will tolerate more of their shit than I will. Calling my post BS is...well...BS!
Keep a healthy distance if you're of a different opinion. My opinion is that Thailand sucks [Mod edited].

Visa runs and other. I go to BKK 3 or 4 times a year for decent beaches (now snooky is chinky only gambling drug slum), medical checkups, shopping (cant get decent shoes or shorts here) I am probably in those figures at least 5 times for this year.
Udon thani used to be the second most popular place in the world for americans to retire to. Not seen any figures recently but it had a big yank population living in the countryside around. They also have airforce games with the Thai every year and that involves hundreds if not thousands more americans coming in and showing as tourists probably.
Burma you are welcome to. Please take the chinks and the russians as well.
The reason Thais like to inflate the figures is plain political PR. The more western tourists come, the more acceptable the regime appears and the more difficult it is for governments back home to criticize. It also makes it look like the government is doing a good job of securing income for local businesses You could not really boast about tourists staying away could you?
