The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology has called on the public and relevant authorities to be on alert for thunderstorms and lightning strikes until the end of this week. There will be average-to-heavy levels of rainfall in 13 provinces.

“Attention, please continue to be careful about thunderstorms and heavy rains from August 1 to 4, especially in coastal areas which will experience large waves caused by strong winds,” the ministry said. “The water levels in rivers will also rise.”

Flood alert for coastal provinces
The Ministry of Water Resources today issued a flood alert in coastal provinces due to heavy rain while Preah Sihanouk provincial governor called people to be be careful going to the beach or fishing.

In a statement today, the ministry warned that southwest monsoonal floods are expected in the provinces of Preah Sihanouk and Koh Kong, especially along national road 4 in the Preah Preah Sihanouk province.

Cambodia News: The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology has been notified that due to heavy rainfall, the Sesan2 Dam will open sluices on August 9, 2019, at 8 pm, which may increase the water flow to more than 4,000 cubic meters per second.

Water Resources Ministry issues flooding alert
The Water Resources and Meteorology Ministry yesterday issued an alert to residents living in provinces bordering Vietnam to brace for heavy rain that could last until Saturday.

The ministry said in a statement that the rain could also result in floods.

“Provinces bordering Vietnam, especially Kratie and Tboung Khmum, could be affected by flood caused by heavy rain due to a low pressure system,” it said. “Strong wind will also affect the areas.”

The ministry added that the coastal provinces of Koh Kong, Preah Sihanouk, Kampot and Kep will be affected by the weather phenomenon.

Coastal weather warning for Sihanoukville and the islands.

Cambodia Breaking News (Sihanoukville): On the morning of September 15, 2019, a storm with strong winds and big waves sank a fishing boat off the shore of the island of Koh Rong Samloem, Sihanoukville. Nobody was injured.
