In-law of HE accused in busts
5 December 2017
Authorities in Takeo and Kandal provinces have busted two large-scale cockfighting rings allegedly owned by Thy Mab, an in-law of Prime Minister HE.
The son-in-law of the premier’s older brother Hun San, Mab has repeatedly run into trouble with the law for running cockfighting operations around the country.
In an interview with government mouthpiece Fresh News yesterday, HE himself ordered the organisers of the Kandal operation to report to police immediately.
“If they do not show up for police, I will order the authorities to arrest them and punish them according to the law without leniency even though those are my nephews or nephews-in-law,” the premier said.
Fresh News reported last night that Mab had turned himself in, citing an unnamed Ministry of Interior official, but the news could not be independently verified as of press time.
In Takeo province’s Bati district on Sunday, a joint force of police, Military Police and soldiers raided, and razed, the cockfighting arena said to be owned by Mab, though there were no arrests.
Yesterday, in Kandal province’s Lvea Em district, more than 150 police and Military Police surrounded another cockfighting compound allegedly owned by Mab and detained nearly 200 people for questioning – though not Mab himself.
Kandal Provincial Governor Mao Phirun said Mab managed to escape after he “incidentally went outside” before police arrived...

Re: Cock-fighting venue raided and closed down
[Hey, no crowing allowed.]
On 4 December 2017, 150 participants were arrested at a cockfighting ring located at Kursat Riverside in Kandal province, and the venue building was destroyed that very evening. The article doesn't relate what happened to the arrested cockfight fans, who were probably released with a fine and a reeducation lecture on the evils of gambling.
The Kandal cockfighting business is believed to belong to the same person as the cockfighting ring that was closed in Takeo province.

Police chief and governor face removal over gambling
December 5, 2017
- The Takeo provincial governor has warned he would remove the police chief and governor of Angkor Borey district should they let gambling go unpunished in their jurisdiction, local media reported.
Provincial governor Lay Vannak said he received a complaint from a woman, who said her husband sold their cows to finance his gambling on cockfighting, poker and dice at a location behind Angkor Borey district hospital.
He said that should the police chief and district governor fail to take action against this location, they would be removed from office.
Mr Vannak’s comments came as he himself led a crackdown on an unlicensed cockfighting ring in Batay district yesterday. Contacted by phone, he declined to comment further...

Thread : topic3042.htmlCock Fighting Spectator Shot Dead by Cambodian Police
Post by CEOCambodiaNews » Wed Nov 26, 2014 1:29 pm
Police shot dead a 25-year-old man at a cockfighting match in Tbong Khmum province Tuesday, in what they claimed was an accident during a raid on the illegal event.
Chhay Oeun was among the spectators at the outdoor match in Memot district’s Chan Moul commune when district police raided the event and began firing warning shots to prevent people from fleeing, provincial police chief Mao Pov said.
“[Police] did not intend to shoot and kill people,” Mr. Pov said. “They shot to warn people not to run away. They shot into the air and a bullet hit a tree and ricocheted and hit the man.”
