They always build over flooded areas, right? Useless to most Cambodians and people already, right? Hence the cheap price.

Yes, it'll flood elsewhere, unless proper measures are put in place. Even then, there'll be some displacement, given their "cost-cutting" mentality.

But for the most part, probably OK, right? I mean, Chinese and Korean engineers, right?

Not sure what to make of it but the casinos playing cash games doing very well and not a spare seat at any games most evenings . Those casinos using chips not doing as well as far as number of punters go .

The best explaination l have heard so far is the Chinese like to display their cash . Some sort of ego thing.

Just put your head inside the casino opposite the Square called Oriental Pearl. Its tables are packed with gamblers! All cash games .

Interestingly they run a pen across the hundred dollar notes to identify conterfiet notes. l was told no line appears on note if real.

No. Not exactly. Cambodia is built on water, and tides and floods are central to the eco-system. Look it up.

I'm quite sure these Chinese companies know the issues with flood water and build proper systems to protect themselves.
As to what consequences they'll have on other khmers living nearby, good question.

Passed Pochentong a few days ago, and noticed that every single building on the stretch between the airport entrance and the HW3&4 roundabout had Chinese signage. That's a few kilometers, at least.

I remember I noticed Chinese businesses the first time I was here, in 2012, but not to that extent. Is this something new, or is it an old area for Chinese and Chinese Cambodian businesses? Maybe I just missed it before.

all behind the airport and most of the country way out past Cham Chao is Chinese investment for abt 7 years.
the blue metal is a good tell tale.

all that land has had proper drainage, sewage, water and electricity laid on as a condition of development.
many factory workers have bought modest dwellings out there on low interest near nothing down developer/owner/vendor finance.

many have built little GH for factory worker rentals and are getting quite healthy margins on their investments.

Sihanoukville streets are empty of tourists. Not a soul around during the day. Only casino workers coming and going. All the plans to build a New Macau will be years in the making. In the mean time it is becoming clear Sihanoukville is no longer on Western tourists radar.

I think the rainy season may have been busier.

Any chance the dream will turn into a nightmare??

It was still on our radar for our annual pilgrimage to the beach, but all the accommodation is supposedly fully booked out.

Way to go Snookyville. Bet many of the local businesses are hurting.

Yesterday I was driving around on that street north of the railwaystation that leeds into tuol kork. An area that used to be a lake and a natural basin in the rainy season is now a concrete wasteland.
One has to wonder of the negative consequences in case of a real heavy rainy season.
