https://www.mmtimes.com/news/angkor-bag ... -2018.htmlSTATE-owned Myanmar National Airlines will operate a direct air-link between Angkor Wat and Bagan as the part of the Cambodia-Myanmar “two countries, one destination” campaign to be implemented in April 2018.
U Thet Lwin Toh, chairman of Union of Myanmar Travel Association, said last week that discussions are still in progress to launch the service.
“We are still discussing flying as a scheduled charter flight with Myanmar National Airlines that would be operated three days a week. But it depends on tourist demand,” U Thet Lwin Toh, who attended the signing of the memorandum of understanding in Cambodia.

This liaison makes sense.
I haven’t been to either in ages but I have the same fond feeling for both even tho Angkor is of course way more spectacular.
One funny story I had in bagan circa 1998 is that a guy I met in one of the not so accessible temple wouldn’t let me buy his 5$ bag worth of Ganga if I didn’t buy his very beautiful Buddha head, also worth 5$. While I was already ‘’historical sites conscious ’’ I had no choice. The small sculpture was so nice I couldn’t throw it away in the GH trash so I packed it while aware of the risks. Next morning I luckily dodged a very thorough bag search before the internal flight to Yangon and home.
Upon Parisian specialists advice, the Buddha head was deemed a very interesting original early age Greco-burmese exemple

No, it doesn't make sense. They tried this before and it did not work. Angkor Wat is an add-on for most visitors coming from Vietnam, Laos, or Thailand and they are not inclined to go anywhere else. Even less so with the current Rohingya thing going on.

Yeah it was in 2012/13 wasn't it? Same sort of schedule from what I remember. Oh well, if it lasts a bit and I get a good priced ticket, why not?
The amount of connections now is pretty good for a long weekend.

Correct. It was nice, especially as there was no visa requirement, but flights were empty.

Your thinking is short-term Hanno. It makes perfect sense as both are main tour destinations for the tour bus crowd. Myanmar is opening up big time and many people I have ever told me they prefer Bagan to Angkor Wat.

I haven't been to either Bagan or Angkor Wat in 5 years, but I absolutely preferred the emptiness of Bagan over the overcrowded Angkor Wat. I can't stand Angkor Wat because of the crowds

Been to both n the past 3 years and prefer Angkor in the off season.
Thing about Bagan is one can still build a stupa there to gain merit
Bagan does have a more isolated feel but Angkor had the same feel back in the 90's

You are wrong. I have been working for the "tour bus" crowd and if they do go to Myanmar, it will be as a stand-alone trip, not as an add-on to Vietnam. And currently tourism in Myanmar is dead due to the political situation.Bitte_Kein_Lexus wrote: ↑Wed Nov 29, 2017 7:01 pm Your thinking is short-term Hanno. hanno; disagree; i have been to Myanmar many times and have covered much of the country, also read and post on the TA ( and Thai visa) Burma forum, 50% of those asking questions are adding Burma to thailand
Another 25% are asking about Burma,Thailand and Cambodia combined
few include Vietnam
As to tourism dead, not so, i know some people that run tours ( motorcycle/trekking ) and such and although it is down, it is not yet dead.
What has really helped the backpacker crowd is being able to buy a evisa and do land crossings, so not sure how much the flight will work but its still a good thing ( i was really hopeful when they did a phuket-Bali direct route but that failed for lack of flyers)
