East... HEAVILY. Vietnam, China, Korea... that's where the money is coming in from. Your fixation for Thailand as being the only place on earth is showing hard in that statement. Most businesses here targeting westerners are owned by westerners... the ones targeting those eastern markets are owned by Khmer... because the Khmer know where the money is coming from. Those eastern countries are the ones investing in the large construction projects, who own the textile factories, who contract the Khmer owned factories... and so on. It's where almost ALL of the real money in this country comes from... and the people investing it trump your SEA tripping backpackers and their $5 dorm rooms all day long when they come in to visit.

The beach is often packed with eastern tourists, spending and shopping (and often being rude as fuck while they do it). The first chartered flights to snooky weren't westerners from thailand... they were Koreans. The big tour bus operations in Siem Reap/Angkor Wat aren't packed with westerners (who tend to just do their own thing via tuktuk)... they're packed with Koreans, Vietnamese and Chinese... most of which flew there instead of taking a $6 bus ride.

A couple of years old now... but it paints the picture well. They Vietnamese are cheaper than the other Asian tourists, but in volume it makes up for it:
