Environment Ministry to Hold Orchid Exhibition This Weekend

The Ministry of Environment will organise a Kesor Kol (Forest Orchid) Exhibition to mark the 3rd National Kesor Kol Forum, and the official launch of “Guidebook on Vegetables in Cambodia” at Aeon Mall Phnom Penh from April 7 to 9.
H.E. Say Samal, Minister of Environment will preside over the events with the expected participation of representatives of relevant ministries and institutions, embassies, partner organisations, private sector, national and international experts, and students.
According to an announcement of the Ministry of Environment, the forthcoming exhibition is aimed to inspire people to take part and support the protection and conservation of Cambodian forest orchid by raising the public awareness on the importance and value of forest orchid and plants in Cambodia; strengthening cooperation between public institutions and the private sector, especially building network of forest orchid lovers; by providing opportunities for the private sector to contribute to the protection, conservation and management of natural resources in Cambodia; and by promoting the richness of forest orchid, plants, spices, vegetables and fruits in Cambodia.
Various species of forest orchid, rare plants, ornamental plants, and various natural products will be displayed at the exhibition, along with fashion show, traditional art performance and concert.
Cambodia has established the Kesor Kol Sok An Phnom Kulen Research and Conservation Centre in Banteay Srei district, Siem Reap province to preserve forest orchid seeds, and so far the centre has collected some 5,000 samples from Preah Sihanouk, Koh Kong, Kampot, Preah Vihear and Siem Reap provinces.

Orchid Exhibition Attracts the Public’s Attention

Kesor Kol (Orchid) Exhibition, held at Aeon Mall 1 in Phnom Penh from April 7 to 9 to mark the 3rd National Orchid Forum, attracted the participation from civil servants, students, conservationists, photographers, artistes and the general public.
The “Guidebook on Vegetables in Cambodia” was also launched at the event organised by the Ministry of Environments and its partners.
According to the ministry, the exhibition was aimed to inspire people to take part and support the protection and conservation of Cambodian orchids by raising the public awareness on the importance and value of orchids and plants in Cambodia; strengthening cooperation between public institutions and the private sector, especially building network of orchid lovers; by providing opportunities for the private sector to contribute to the protection, conservation and management of natural resources in Cambodia; and by promoting the richness of orchids, plants, spices, vegetables and fruits in Cambodia.
Various species of orchids, rare plants, ornamental plants, luxury wood and fruit plants, natural agricultural products, forest products and by-products, photos and drawings related to nature, biodiversity and orchids, and so on were displayed at the three-day exhibition, along with orchid fashion show, traditional art performance, concert, and video screening.
