If it's truly a generalisation, then it must by definition be mostly true. Otherwise it would be a false generalisation, aka a lie.Doc67 wrote: ↑Wed May 26, 2021 12:12 pm
Generalising has it's place in the world, it's because there is an element of truth in it, generally. There are always exceptions - diversity as you call it - but I have never heard anyone describe Islam as diverse before.
Just because out of a group of 10 people 1 is a good guy and the rest are assholes, why is it wrong saying they are a bunch of assholes?
That's logical, Spock.

a false generalisation, aka a lie.
That's a erroneous analysis. Just because something is false does not, in itself, make is a lie. Falsity is just one element.
Innocent misrepresentation (made reasonably in the belief that it is true) is not a lie, whereas fraudulent misrepresentation (made in the knowledge it is false) is a "lie".
The law has recognised this element of mens rea for a very long time and treats the two differently.
Anyway, I'm sure you already know this bit of contract #101 armchairlawyer

Agree 100%. The point I was (unsuccessfully) trying to make was that when woke people say you must not make a generalisation, they are saying you must not state something that is mostly true. Because by definition a generalisation must be mostly true.
Under woke culture, generalisations about many things are considered wrong and must be banned. Whereas others are encouraged. Which was nicely illustrated by the cartoon about women's rights etc.
