Re: The Balfour Agreement 100 shirty years on
They (THEM) bought it with cash from the land owners during the mandate. There is no straw man. The Arabs who owned the land mostly lived the other side of the border and it was shit land they were getting crappy rents on, so they were happy to take the jews' money and have their glorious Arab empire afterwards and then kick the jews out. I'm not talking manifest destiny or the fact that the Israelites are genetically identical to the Canaanites, so much so that they are most likely them and the bit in the bible where they fought them is horseshit - apart from the fact that the walls of Jericho did fall down, but due to a massive earthquake - just short term cash deals blowing up in people's faces. It was after the war that land got stolen.vladimir wrote: ↑Tue Oct 31, 2017 6:29 pmThe fertility of the land is irrelevant and a strawman argument.cptrelentless wrote: ↑Tue Oct 31, 2017 3:48 pm Wikipedia says Wadi al-Hawarith wasn't depopulated until the Arab war. It also says the 2/3rds of the land was unculivatable. Judging by this article by I would assume a muslim chap http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1 ... ode=fmes20 it would seem that both parties were in dispute. Jewish colonists did actually buy the land they settled during the mandate, the landlords all lived in Syria, which was French and the jews settled on land that was considered marginal, like the above. It's only through intensive farming practises, like their kibbutz thing, that the land went from marginal to fertile. But on the whole the British had quotas in place for jews and spent the majority of the time sending them back to France where they came from.
If someone steals your truck and uses it more profitably (after they get $1 mn A DAY from a the US govt), does that justify the theft?
Likewise, buying stolen goods is also a criminal act in most civilised countries, and does not give rise to legal title.
And the whole concept of ancient claim being the supreme justification? OK, time to give it all back to Africa, where DNA science, not some nutty religion, proves ownership.

I'm not going to debate this with you a la 440. The article states historical fact. You can try and spin that if you like, but theft is theft, end of.
No amount of spin-doctoring is going to make BS marketing, theft, and murder of civilians sanitary.
