There are many sources for Khmer news articles and they can all be found here in one place. Most of the media comes out of Phnom Penh, Siem Reap or Sihanoukville, but we cover national Cambodian news from all provinces.

Cambodia considers reversing online gaming ban, irking China

Post by Adam Xie » Sat Sep 14, 2019 11:14 am

NIKKEI Asian reivew

"We are not sure yet if it's an absolute ban or not," Ros Phearun, deputy director general of Cambodia's Ministry of Economy and Finance, told the Nikkei Asian Review on the sidelines of a gaming summit in Phnom Penh this week. "So let's wait and see the draft law first."

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte -- another regional leader who has forged closer ties with Beijing -- announced last week that he had rejected demands by Chinese President Xi Jinping to shut down his country's online gaming industry.
Cambodia, however, seems to have gone along with calls to shut the industry down, at least initially.

This is a war among different party leaders in PRC.

The situation looked clear cut. China wants online gambling stopped and Cambodia has agrreed to put an end to it.

Now we see this article and they seem to be saying maybe / maybe not!!

My guess is Cambodia will comply with China's request.

Seems clear that a new vision for Sihanoukville is now taking form. Less emphasis on gambling by look. The 'Little Marcau' concept may become a smaller part of the future.

I think there will be a lot of Khmer very happy with the new direction - as well as Barang.

Started about 10pm last night, hasn't stopped, really heavy and high winds. Electricity is out (natch), more flooding, everything is leaking. This is one serious storm.
