I have had 2 stays in hospital in India with insurance, both times pneumonia. Without the insurance i would now be dead or skint. I don,t know about KOW but in India if you are paying you can,t really haggle and they really exagerate what treatment you need drugs, all sorts of MRI scans, Xrays and will just milk you for all they can.
I am not sure about long term travel insurance but a couple of months travel insurance from UK for India works out at about £2 a day.

That is OK for short time holidays. But what is there for long time expats?

I have never looked into it. But you can get up to a year in one policy for travel. After that is strays into a different type of insurance, ie not travel insurance.
Old people over 60 living in Asia would probably have to pay a lot for what is basically health insurance as apposed to travel insurance.

Yeah, this company does a 'backpacker' policy as well for the same price.

Another advantage of using them is that I don't have to tell them the countries I want to visit before I go there, whereas with some other insurers I'd have to get in touch with them each time I wanted to travel which I couldn't be arsed doing!
yeah, ive used it a few times for about 6-7months it usually costs me around £70 i think, all depends on how much excess you want to pay

I think the hospitals charge less and don't take the piss if you don't have insurance and are paying yourself.

The large hospital bills put up the insurance premiums.

Thanks for all the pointers, everyone.

I'm going to sleep on it for a while before I decide whether to give the blood-suckers my hard-earned.
