There are no obvious parallels between the situation of sojourners in Cambodia with that of sojourners in the Gulf countries.

Although Vietnam is, by far, a more developed country than Cambodia, Vietnamese work, legally and illegally, in Cambodia while Cambodians, Burmese and
Laotians work, legally and illegally in Thailand.

Again, Thais work both legally and illegally in Malaysia* and, these days, do a lot of the jobs West Bank Palestinians used to do in Israel.

The sad reality is that such sojourners have few real rights. Only in Israel are there human rights organizations willing to make a public
fuss about their conditions of work and life.

* Thais, Indonesians and Filipinos/Filipinas make up the majority of foreigners working in Malaysia.
