A Brit ponders the lives of poor migrant workers on the Gulf

Yeah, that place out 'there'. Anything not really Cambodia related should go here.

A Brit ponders the lives of poor migrant workers on the Gulf

Post by boozyoldman »

This is sound piece of writing.

The reality is that things - in one person's estimation* - haven't changed much since 1975 except that the Yemenis simply vanished (their government
failed to denounce and excoriate Saddam Hussein vehemently enough in the aftermath of his invasion of Kuwait) and that - in theory - migrant workers
enjoy more rights than they once did.

Theodore Dalrymple (real name Anthony Daniels) is an outstanding writer. I look forward to reading his piece for Taki Mag every week. His books are great too. I really like the stuff he has written about his work in prisons and hospitals.

If you are suggesting a logical link between this article and current conditions in Cambodia, please state it lucidly in a post under this original post.
As my old Cajun bait seller used to say, "I opes you luck.

There are no obvious parallels between the situation of sojourners in Cambodia with that of sojourners in the Gulf countries.

Although Vietnam is, by far, a more developed country than Cambodia, Vietnamese work, legally and illegally, in Cambodia while Cambodians, Burmese and
Laotians work, legally and illegally in Thailand.

Again, Thais work both legally and illegally in Malaysia* and, these days, do a lot of the jobs West Bank Palestinians used to do in Israel.

The sad reality is that such sojourners have few real rights. Only in Israel are there human rights organizations willing to make a public
fuss about their conditions of work and life.

* Thais, Indonesians and Filipinos/Filipinas make up the majority of foreigners working in Malaysia.

SE Asia to Israel in one swoop.
That little human rights issue will never change because the Jews do thing that they are in the right and because the Yanks support them due to the powerful Jew lobbyists in the USA.

Fuckers.

Ignoring the Big Picture of the Israel-Palestine issue, here is one little picture about Thais in Israel:

Haaretz is now so Left-of-Center that it is almost off the table, but this sad story is probably true
