Re: Teachers Wanted: No Negroes, Indians, Mongoloids Need Apply
I mentioned qualifications cause that guy said, it's not our first language, so we shouldn't teach.
Even if that person is well enough educated, they still shouldn't teach cause it's not their native language?
That sounds very racist to me. If it doesn't to you, okay then? Are we done?

Being educated is not racist.
Always "hope" but never "expect".

I think maybe the Filipino English teacher was speaking/teaching Queens English and not American English and so PR felt the pronunciation incorrect. When I was in the USA for a while in the "80's everyone I came in contact with mispronounced English.littlelostgirl wrote: ↑Fri Sep 29, 2017 12:13 pmI mentioned qualifications cause that guy said, it's not our first language, so we shouldn't teach.

About the racism side..........If in a western country there are laws on racism. Here I myself and even my Khmer lady are a minority, but do you hear me calling the racist card about colour.
Always "hope" but never "expect".

HMMMM well Germans, Brits, Ozzies and me complained about their pronunciation and use of the wrong words, IT was not just about how to pronounce "water"Kuroneko wrote: ↑Fri Sep 29, 2017 12:34 pmI think maybe the Filipino English teacher was speaking/teaching Queens English and not American English and so PR felt the pronunciation incorrect. In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST
Re: Teachers Wanted: No Negroes, Indians, Mongoloids Need Apply
My school gets constant requests from parents to employ Western teachers. We don't comply, but certain policies have evolved over more than 20 years.
Asian teachers are preferred to Western teachers at Primary and kindergarten. It isn't a matter of salaries, but a belief by administration that they are better suited to the role.
There is no discrimination at Secondary level, which I head. However, past experience has shown us that non-native speakers cannot cope effectively with the rigorous demands of the Cambridge International English curriculum, which focuses on advanced linguistics and/or literature studies. It's a far cry from ESL.
Do these policies make our school racist? If so, are we anti-Asian or anti-white?

Having English as a second language cannot have any connection with race because so many people in this world are not white and have English as a first language (African Americans etc) and so many white people do not have English as a first language (most Europeans for example).

I gathered that, I was just I took the focus of your post being about competence not ethnicity. I suspect if parents here used the same criteria concerning competence rather than appearance then many of the English teachers would be out of a job.
Here English teaching is a business and hiring is done to increase profit. The parents want a "white face" to teach their children and that's what they get. The school hires a teacher that looks the part (often) irrespective of competence, and the school makes money. Only the students are likely to loose, but this is not apparent for sometime down the track. The result is the school makes money without culpability. In other professions here, for example nursing, competence rather than appearance is more important. People pay for discernible results rather than appearance and therefor you get hired on competence. Well hopefully

Its easy for something said or written to offend.
The job post is advertising for a qualified white skinned female Khmer, with excellent English skills. Like I say my lady is Khmer black skinned, should she think it is a racist remark?
