And Cambodia needs all the national treasures it can get.
That hasn't stopped many of his other structures being destroyed. It looks like the plot is only 40 X 20 meters, which would make it around $8750 a square meter. :?

Get the French to start bidding, for part of their embassy or something.
If that does not stir the ruling party's national pride - well, the French are the one nation on earth that you could trust to honour it properly.
UNESCO could maybe kick in too, perfect for them.

The French already have a nice embassy in the best park in the city, unfortunately not open to the public. At that ridiculous price only an investor with 20 storeys planned will be interested.
