Looking to move from NZ to teach or work - Anyone have experience or advice to provide?

Post by Blucky »

So I've recently taken a trip through southeast Asia and have decided I need to come back to spend some more time here.

I'm looking at options I have to earn money while being here, and have heard of TEFL and IELTS. Which of these is the better option, and how hard is it to get a job once I have the qualification?

Are there any other common jobs which would pay a decent amount of money?

Currently have a uni degree and solid job, but looking to make a change from my 9-5.

Any help is appreciated!

CELTA is the best regarded. with a degree you may get a decent job.

Thanks for the info guys, will look into CELTA.
I have a degree in Property, so not sure how applicable it would be in Cambodia. Might work if I speak a bit of khmer?

Was aiming for around the 20+usd/hr mark. Is this attainable?

No.

I could tell all kind of stories painting the shades of grey, but for a new arrival without special qualifications and without a contract before arriving a 20+ USD / hour salary would be really exceptional.

Always worth a shot, eh.

Is there much advantage doing CELTA over TEFL?

only way u will make that kind of $$ is to be hired by an international school out of country. ($2, 500-3,000/month)
